I'm pretty sure I can type just about anything MUCH much faster on an iPhone keyboard than with a pen... So what's with the pen? I'd like a pen for art and doodles.. Is it for non text note taking, like math and stuff? How are they marketing the pen?
I have to sign my name on the terminal at the prescription counter at Rite-Aid. It is absolutely impossible to write with your hand in midair like that and without the normal friction from paper. Anybody who thinks they're going to take notes that way is fooling themselves. They could never read what they wrote anyway. My signature could just as well be Chinese calligraphy—in the "grass style".
And how, pray tell, did Samsung schedule their device announcements before Apple entered the market?
Last time I checked, Samsung announces the Note series each year at IFA, which is an international consumer electronics conference event held in Berlin.
This merely proves how incredibly inept Samsung is. Aside from the fact that no one cares what Samsung has to say to begin with, releasing or announcing a product before the iPhone is just flat out dumb for any company. All anyone is talking about is the fact that it's happening right before Apple's announcement, then all anyone will be talking about is what Apple does. Samsung will not disrupt anything, steal the show, or otherwise make an impact.

"Stick it in your mouth and you don't need a single hand to operate this thing"
And who on earth possibly cares what they are going to unpack?
I might. I haven't bothered looking into Android or Samsung in a serious way, but if Apple doesn't have a big phone this year I'd be inclined to at least see if the Note could be a viable replacement for my wife and me. If not, nothing lost but a little time.
If you use deductive reasoning, and follow what Apple's done for years, September 9-10 has been the obvious date since January at least, when iMore predicted this date. Samsung can read the tea leaves too. In fact I'm sure they know what the A8 looks like, because they're making it. They're already making the snarky ads showing what the Note can do that the measly iPhone can't.
They're still on a downward slope profit-wise. They did make money by spending billions on world-wide ads and being the most famous Android phone. But there's a problem with commodity businesses, as Compaq and HP and dozens of other bankrupt Windows computer makers show you. The software makes the money.
Why would they do this a week before Apple's event? Doesn't make any sense. They'll be news for a few days and then quickly forgotten once Apple has their launch. If anything they should launch AFTER Apple - like 2 weeks after once the news has calmed down some.
Of course it makes sense. It helps keep iPhone market share numbers down. By releasing their own flagship device, their "sales" numbers are inflated along with (but not nearly as much) as the iPhone's share of the market. If they didn't release a new model in time with Apple's, iPhone share numbers would go through roof pushing everyone else down. Samsung's only game left is to make sure their unit "sales" numbers consistently remain higher than Apple's otherwise they'll never recover and become Nokia 2.0.
Honestly can you imagine Samsung NOT releasing a new device?
Seriously man, you're just plain wrong. I'm not defending Samsung here but you need to get your facts straight. Samsung does this announcement one day before IFA every year. Stop making crap up.

LMAO!! That is something I wasn't expecting, and yet it is very cool that it is already at $1400+!
I bet the event'll be sexist and out of touch with reality.

And how did Samsung schedule their smartphone announcements before Apple? They sure did announce some at IFA, like this one in 2006:

I get it, people love to hate on Samsung for EVERYTHING, but can't we just take a break for just one day?

See? Sexist.
Wow such passionate defending of Samsung by some of you. Not mentioning names but you know who you are.
I think it's more of an offensive move against [more] stupidity.
Seriously people?
The Galaxy Note 4 will be announced on Sept. 3 2014
The Galaxy Note 3 was announced on Sept. 4 2013
The Galaxy Note 2 was announced on Aug. 29 2012
The Galaxy Note was announced on Sept. 1 2011
This isn't rocket science...
Clearly it all revolves around Apple. No other products should launch either 6 months before Apple's latest iPhone, nor 6 months after....
It's $3050 now. Amazing.
People have spent more on less:

Imbeciles buy Samsung. Simple as that.
looks like I will finally be able to get a proper size iPhone
