I'm far from convinced that the Apple Watch will be a success, but there's no threat from a Microsoft watch. The only brand with enough potential loyal customers to make a smart watch truly successful is Apple. I'm one of those customers. 30+ years. And I have zero desire for an Apple Watch. It's very hard for me to imagine any company turning the smart watch into a must have item.
In still not quite sold on the Appke Watch, but nothing screams more "Dork" than Microsoft's attempt.
It just says "no" on every level.
If I were Microsoft, I hope they kept the iPhone funeral props to save money when their watch is DOA.
Embarrassing.
How do you know what Microsoft's attempt is? Those images above are concepts that DID NOT COME from Microsoft. They're someone's guess.
The fact is that anyone who is commenting on the quality of Microsoft's offering is trolling. You have no idea whether Microsoft's attempt will be good, bad or indifferent.
Microsoft's watch may indeed wind up being another piece of crap that no one wants, but the fact remains that we simply don't know.
How did that work out for Palm, Nokia, and BB? 1 out of 4 companies that went HW and SW has succeeded. A 25% success rate isn't good. The market would never sustain 5+ OSs.
Excellent point. Let me rephrase that to include doing HW and SW really well. Not that you said it, but do you think it's healthier for MS and Google to use the approaches they have? It seems that only Samsung has had success in the Android world, I'm not sure if MS's latest phones are making them any money or can be called a success, ditto for the Fire phone.
I believe the MS brand is the problem here. We have very little details about an MS watch but because it's from MS (and forgetting that this is an Apple centric board) our expectations is that it will suck, and suck well.

Microsoft can launch it TOMORROW, and no one will really care. Just like it is with their entire mobile lineup.
The alarm goes "developers developers developers!"
And there are sweat stains under his armpits.
The brown background one on the right really makes the thing look gorgeous....
wow, in fashion accessory, there is 'understated' and there is just plain ugh.
And yeah, I do have a coworker (with at least one relative employed in Redmond), who has told me point-blank: "I hate Apple. I just... hate them."
It also requires the user to be carrying their Zune for internet access.

Hopefully they've included the "Start" menu and the full Office productivity suite

Cortana: I don't know - Excel is still loading...and stop calling me Clippy!
There's a ton of hurt ready to drop on one of these products.
Maybe they can call it the Surface Zune?
I bet it runs a mini version of Symantec or Norton Anti-Virus and you have to wait an hour before using MicroSoft Pay while it checks for any malware.
Mock Funeral sounds in order ....
"Here next to Zune, lies the body of MSWatch ..."
and if you do not install Anti-Virus the watch will suck the life blood out of you. Of you could catch Ebola.
Just what the world needs: another half baked unfinished MS product, racing to the bottom again.
Those would probably have a better chance at selling.
Of course they are.
I heard it comes with a keyboard and stylus. And to charge the battery, you'll need to dance.
...to move like Balmer.
