Most of the folks commenting on this keep saying the CurrentC folks are trying avoid CC processing fees. I call BS on that. What they are really trying to avoid is the banks passing the buck on fraud. These fraudulent charges have hurt the merchants far more than the CC processing fees.
As consumers everyone should be aware that there are no laws covering fraud on CurrentC. The merchants will be dodging the bullet when their security fails. All those fraudulent charges will come out our asses and we won't have any legal recourse other than mandatory arbitration forced on us by their EULA.
If you really want to have these merchants hear what you think of their turning off Apple Pay before they even have their "Screw You Consumer" CurrentC system on line then recall you have the right to walk away from a purchase when they give you unacceptable payment terms.Pick out a few hundred dollars worth of stuff and when at the register they apologize and ask you to use another form of payment: tell them no security means no sale baby.
Enough people do this and our voice will be heard loud and clear.
By the way, Apple Pay comes with no passing the buck to the merchant. Any bad charge is covered by the banks not passed along to the merchant. And all the federally protected card holders rights are still in place for us.
Perhaps I didn't state it well. What I meant with the example of '"o" instead of "?"' was that it would be nice if there were a character that had simply a black outline around the edges of a white Apple icon (as in "o"), instead of an all-black Apple icon (as in "?").
As a matter of aesthetics, the latter just grates (for me).
?Add: diplication (Post #152) explained it so much better than I did.
if you can't email your docs to him, I wouldn't trust him to do my taxes.
That is stupid and I already addressed that. Why should I have to scan a thousand receipts when I could just give him the originals? I've trusted him for twenty years.
What a fucking perfect example of a disconnected, ass-backwards, consumer hating decision. I mean, you REALLY need to have your head stuck up so far u your ass to make an executive decision like this.
Let's take a look at this payment process (coming in the future!)
1. Unlock your phone
2. Find the app
3. Launch the app
4. Point your QR code at a scanner, in a very specific position
5. Wait
Oh, and it needs access to your checking account. Yeah, this is gonna take off. Apple Pay has nothing on this. Where the **** do I sign up??
You assume that the app for CurrentC is going to remain on the App Store or Google Play. Once the app is deemed to replicate iPhone functionality or some othe App Store guideline that Apple invents next week to prohibit apps that encourage the exclusion of built-in functionality then Apple will reject the app and CurrentC will require a website login to function.
Apple, Google, and the entire US banking and credit card system vs. some washed up retailers, most of whom are a few quarters away from bankruptcy. Didn't take a genius to see how that was going to end, lol.
Best Buy, Kmart and Sears definitely fit this description.Target and Walmart should be embarrassed to be in the same consideration.
I think a good deal of Android users aren't even aware they have a web browser on their phone. Being dead serious, not talking high end users which are a very small portion of the Android userbase anyway.
While many Google Android devices are feature phones I am not sure the same rule applies in the United States. I have seen many people on iPhone and Google Android using their phones as feature phones or Facebook phones at best.
I just left this on the CVS feedback page and will leave something similar on Rite-Aid, i.e. that I will not move my business there and will avoid even infrequent purchases.
I am considering contact whether an ADA lawsuit might make sense as per item 1 below. This might sound silly to inconsiderate jerks like corporate hacks at CVS and Rite-Aid, but this truly is a serious issue for me and I am sure many frequent shoppers at drugstores!
"I spend more than $15,000/year at CVS on medications and other purchases and will be leaving if CVS continues to block Apple Pay.
1. I am severely disabled. Apple Pay allows me to easily pay without trying to adjust usually broken tilt mechanisms, pull out a wallet, pull out a credit card, swipe without dropping, grasp a small stylus, and write my name on a small screen. I am am not alone.
It is a very easy and 'reasonable accommodation' to allow the disabled to use Apple Pay to avoid these very serious problems.
Blocking Apple Pay appears to be an ADA violation under these circumstances.
2. I will never use CurrentC to allow CVS to collect sales data on me and risk exposing my most private transactions intentionally or otherwise. Apple Pay collects no such info to be leaked or misused.
3. Although Walgreen's is more difficult for me to reach, the effort will be necessary if CVS does not reverse itself and purposefully makes my disability harder to address."
Did you buy your phone because it fits your lifestyle or did you buy your phone so you can fit your lifestyle around it?
Sorry i didnt answer you sooner i didnt see you post.
I bought it because it fits me. Its is easy, simple, eficient and reliable. Something i can not say about previous phones i owned. On a daily basis i have to take my wallet out about 10 time to pay for stuff. Wether is for work or personal. So trust me i am loving apple pay. Not having to take my wallet out, choose a card, use it (which becomes a pain when the band wears out) answer about 5 question on the key pad, enter pin or sign, put back in my wallet, fit wallet back into pocket vs take phone out and done. So thank you APPLE!

Dumb. One is not so much more difficult than the other, I see people swiping away at every store without a frown on their face because it is so tedious and tiresome. Get over it! ?Pay is about better security not ease of use.

Whatever. I usually have my phone in my hand at checkout, not my wallet. ApplePay IS about ease of use as well.
I went to their customer feedback page and sent them this note:
"<span style="line-height:1.4em;">My family and I are your member-customers, and I am guessing, among your high-value customer group.</span>
I sincerely hope that the recent news item about your company not accepting ApplePay is untrue.
If it is indeed true, I would be quite disappointed, and think it's deeply short-sighted on your part. I hope you will reconsider this backward-looking decision. Otherwise, it will negatively impact my spending in your store."
If they heard something similar fro a few thousand people, I am guessing they'll pay attention.
I just went to the rite-aide site to complain as well. I will drive the extra half mile to Walgreens now specifically because of this. I know a friend from work who had been frequenting Walgreens and he says apple pay has worked flawlessly every time.
I've been so close to actually ditching a traditional wallet for some time now and the bulk of plastic cards is about my only real holdout. I haven't carried cash in a long time. I have a lot of hopes for apple pay doing quite well and will spend my money in a way to reflect that.

You can never miss what you never had! Now that i have apple pay i will miss it if i dont! But, hey! What ever floats your boat. I ilke it ill use it. I am happy. Hope you can be happy too

Also wonder how you only use a password once a year for government taxes that often are paid quarterly, biweekly, weekly, etc.
when you file an extension you have to pay online before Sept 15, but during the year you can pay at your bank for your quarterlies,
if you can't email your docs to him, I wouldn't trust him to do my taxes.

CurrentC is only a good deal for the merchants.
Why? Seriously, please explain.

I would not mind any of them disappearing from the face of the earth, especially walmart.
I think the earth would agree with you there...
So, no 941 taxes, no state taxes?
California state taxes are mailed by company check. Same with Franchise tax, sales tax, etc.

941 taxes are federal.
Paychex handles all of the employee stuff.

It's only a matter of time before CVS or RiteAid's system gets hacked and forces them to issue an "apology".
Retailers have shown time and time again that they cannot be trusted with the consumer's data.
These retailers will no longer have my business.

Yep! they are just asking for it by being contrarians.
Personally, I have not been to a drug store since forever. I have no prescriptions and if I did I would get them at my HMO.
The merchants in that group are in decline anyway. No worries.
