You may see the pay of security occupations rise, but only for those that can do more (e.g. manage some of the technology, enhancing productivity), so you will end up with higher pay for few persons. They claimed this non-union company was under paying its workers and did not provide them any benefits and a long list of things to make Apple look like they hired a wetback sweat shop.
With the permission of the new cleaning company Apple published the details of this company award, and show that in fact this company paid competitive wages and their full time works got benefits day one unlike the union company which required their works to be with the company one year before they go any benefits. The list went on, in the end the union look really bad and this little company had more people knocking on its door trying to get job or do business with them.
People need to stop glorifying the military. The people that glorify the military are probably people who would never sign up and never did serve their country.
No glorification intended on my part, just a valid comparison. I served for 6 years in the military and have several family members who have also served, some for over 20 years. I fully understand how tough it is for junior military families to make ends meet when they are stationed in a high cost of living area like SF Bay, San Diego, DC, and Seattle. If living gloriously includes needing to obtain food stamps to feed their families then I guess you could say they are living the high life. It's only after factoring things like housing allowances that junior personnel begin to approach income equity with the security guards in question. You also have to factor in the challenges that spouses of military members face when trying to sustain a career when they are being reassigned every few years. With the tax burdens and cost of living challenges faced by most American families today, having two income earners is a necessity, especially in areas like California. Today's all volunteer force offers little more job security than any other career. Service members have to perform or they will get tossed, just like they would in any other job. The military has also been downsizing and forcing involuntary separations. Yes, you can get laid off from the military.
I do understand where you're coming from about people who love to wave the flag and espouse patriotism but would never consider serving themselves, much less, allowing their children to serve. This applies to almost all of today's conservative radio celebrities. Nothing would solve this problem better than having compulsory national service for all US citizens, be it in a military service or social service capacity. I'm 100% behind such a model rather than the free ride by birthright that all Americans are gifted with today.

Companies have greater restrictions than individuals when it comes to the use of cash. There is no comparison.
