Nothing. Didn't mean to imply it. However, as with any device manufacturer, battery life is not something to be dismissed, or taken for granted, especially when compared to watches in general, and other smart watches in particular. The ?Watch purports to be an amazing device, but right now it appears to strive to do to much for the technology available to power it -- and that will limit its usefulness in the marketplace. Other smart watches don't pretend to do as much, so don't take as central a role in the users day to day life for battery life to become a central issue.
People who wear watches now, like Ive, don't have to worry about charging their watch everyday on top of all their other electronics. But Apple is asking them to trade that convenience for something that purports to be more useful than a traditional watch, yet they expect the consumer to make a substantial sacrifice for it, assuming the trade off is worth it. That seems like a very dangerous assumption on which to base such a major product launch.
TechCrunch reports the time to fully charge Apple Watch is 2 hours. I find this a bit hard to believe, but they are citing some beta testers. Its a teeny battery. How can it take longer than the comparatively massive batteries in the iPhone and iPad? It is unlikely to be discussed much at the Monday event.
Beta testers are all Apple employees and everyone else uses it in the Apple bunker. So, Apple employees leaked this info putting their high paying jobs in jeaperdy? A Iphone can be charged in 2h, so I'm doubting this info A LOT.
So far there is nothing to suggest a reason for wearing it at night so take it off when you go to bed, put it on all charged up in the morning.
No, one segment of users would like to wear it while they sleep: the "measured life" group who'll want that activity monitoring of the entire time they're asleep in order to sort out whatever arcane stuff can be plotted out. That's a big chunk of the 24 hours to go dataless for some I expect.. though a separate activity monitor that fed into the same HealthKit dataplots would be one solution as all the other functions of the Apple device, notifications etc, wouldn't be need in sleep.
I feel the watch may really become a niche device for sure. It's like the Apple Newton: a great good/idea not ready due to a limit in technological advances (battery). Battery life is unacceptable for a lot of people. Unless it provides wireless charging and you can put it on a mat and let it charge, giving the illusion that it doesn't need charging.
"Unless it provides wireless charging", which it does.
Really not bothered with the Watch but I'm gagging for a new Apple TV!
+1. I couldn't care less about the Watch, but would love a completely redesigned AppleTV and/or an iPad Pro. I'd buy either of those without hesitation - the Watch - meh, maybe Christmas 2016, if people still seem to like it then...
The event will be underwhelming as usual per many whiners. Beside Apple Watch pricing and battery life, I would care less about others unless Tim Cook gives us another "Once More Thing" Apple TV as a central entertainment device with full iOS, 4K capability and a la cater TV contents...
My first thought when I saw the event logo was of the old NBC Peacock - so I'm crossing my fingers that there is indeed going to be something AppleTV related...
Tim will come on stage wearing an Apple Watch. He will give an update on the retail stores, and probably right out of the box briefly explain the stores reconfiguration for Apple Watch sales. I think there is a good chance he will hand the stage over to Angie for that. It will be her first event appearance.
There may be a brief update on Apple Pay because it relates to the Watch.
The watch tech features will go next. What it will do, and some app demos. Jony will likely appear at least by video. They will announce the iOS8.2 release; and discuss when 8.3 will drop.
Once it is fully described so its value evident, then they will show how many iPhones it will work with. (iP5+) Then there will be some discussion of the bands and styling.
Then, and only then, and the end of all the info will a price list appear. Almost with one breath they'll reveal when it can be ordered and delivered. I think there will be a "pre-order" online, and a shipping start date. An in stores date will be announced.
They did say "starting at $349." I would not be surprised if, having given this a full 6 months consideration, they announce a slightly lower price. Probably not, but I can see Tim wanting to have a bombshell. I can also see Tim saying the 42mm and 38mm sizes carry same pricing...but likely not for the Edition models. But for the sport version - sure.
I doubt any other products will be discussed. This is likely (IMHO) an Apple Watch Only Event.
That would be awesome if the said, hey, we improved battery life and we got the price down to $249. Maybe sell at 8% margin and kill everyone else making smart watches.
Probably not, but if they got it down to $299, I'd consider one. Kind of the magic price point.

Odd how every time an unnanounced product is 'late' that it's invariably due to 'poor display yields'. You would have thought that by now Apple would have got that one sorted ... ;-)

I don't believe it either. Sounds like they were fed a controlled leak.

Isn't it a stylized representation of the sun rising?

$299... not in a million years. Look how long it took for Apple to move the price down to $299 for the iPod Touch. Also Apple will NOT let the ?Watch become a commodity product - the price will stay well above the commodity range.

This whole keynote is redundant if it’s just Apple Watch.
The original iPhone only got one keynote, and look how that fared.
This second keynote looks too much like striving to get the message across, something they patently failed to achieve first time round.
What I'd like to see is a humble apology from Tim Cook and Jony Ive in person for the shittiness of iOS 8 and all its bugs, quickly followed by a promise to never release such a disastrous mess of an OS ever again.
Also, a combined music-streaming/download service for iTunes and a large iPad.
Benji, you're a complete troll and you belong on my block list. I've had it.

It's a lotus flower... lot's of Eastern symbology there. It's not gonna be lost on most of that side of the planet where the New Year is also about to begin.

Welcome to the club. Butt Frost must be blocked by most of the board members because few even respond to his drivel.

Makes me wonder what a fellow might find out about his sleeping body. He might discover that his body is carrying on a steamy romance with the young divorcee next door. He could be pissed because (a) he found out his body is cheating on his wife, or (b) his body's having a better sex life then his conscious self.

$249 is way too low. I fully expect Apple to sell at 40% margins and kill everyone else making smart watches.

What makes this an Apple-specific issue?

I guess you don't use an iPhone 6+. That phone is a beast as far as battery life goes.
Indeed; I've gotten really sloppy with my charging regimen. Gets me into a bad habit.
Currently 85% charged. 2 hours, 48 minutes used (largely SAFARI, Twitter and Facebook), 8 hours, 37 minutes standby.
I used to habitually top up and now that habit's gone.... I can't even remember when I last used the charger on my desk at work.
