On a retina display, Apple's website has the two watch models looking quite similar in color, but IMHO only the Sport edition is rendered anywhere close to accurate (as judged in person).
I have seen the watch sport in anodized rose gold color. I saw Friday night at the Apple Store. Before I ordered a rose gold iPhone. On the phone there are places, like around the buttons, Apple logo, and other places that are polished, and are not matte. The main surfaces are matte as you say. My comments are based on having seen the sport watch, and have nothing to do with Edition Rose Gold watch.
The shiny parts give it a different feel than a purely flat, matter anodized rose gold would be. They impart the warmth of rose gold. Sorry you disagree.
We'll see when the actual phones show up how the total thing looks.

Well, I just ordered a Rose Gold 6S and will use it with pride. I'm secure enough in myself as a man to use a Rose Gold (or Rose Pink) phone. To me it looks pretty sharp, and it's new. Did the 12 month deal, so if I don't like it I can change next year or simply buy a case to cover the Rose color, but doubt I'll cover it.

I was considering the Apple silicone case (the leather version is too slippery), but instead went with the Tech 21 EVO Mesh Sport. Aside from a solid level of protection from drops (iLounge.com), I like being able to see the back of the phone through the semi transparent rear of the case.
Skullduggery has nothing to do with it. In person, the colors of the rose gold Watch Edition and Watch Sport look nothing alike. The Edition looks gold with tinge of rose/pink, while the Sport looks just pink (light pink). People who haven't seen them both in person have no solid basis for commenting about their similarity.

They went a bit overboard with the red tint to differentiate it more from the existing gold model. They shouldn't call the edition Watch and iPhone (and Rose Gold Sport) the same when they are clearly not the same color. I think using the term rose is a more sensible choice than pink but it would be a rose by some other name, like Space Rose. Rose gold jewellery seems to vary quite a bit in the amount of red so I guess it still qualifies.

1) That top link looks metallic pink to me. You know how different lighting exposure, and even post editing can affect the perceive color, right? That color is not even close to what I see when I look at the rose gold Watch Sport. The second link is much closer to what I see in the Apple Store. You don't see all that cooper coloring in there?
2) How long have you been on this forum? You should know that 9to5 links are blocked for whatever reason. As I've repeatedly demonstrated, there is an easy solution you can use to post the link:

The difference is the metallic quality of it. Especially the shiny bits around buttons, Apple logo, etc. which highlight it and make it look different than just a "pink" phone. And yes, I've seen the watch sport rose gold in person.
I've had my Rose Gold 6S plus since Friday evening and it looks very coppery and not at all "pink" in the feminine sense or kid toy sense of pink. Coppery almost salmony "pink" if you want.
