Of course you're technically right about that. But, if that was Apple's intention, I would consider that to be a rather sneaky, petty, legalistic move.

Huh? What is sneaky, petty and could be a legal issue for Apple? They don't have their Remote app ready so you want to sue them? They don't have the Remote app so they are being sneaky?

Bottom line: We all assumed things they were clearly never stated, and we were wrong. I'm hoping it's updated before mine arrives on Monday. If it's not, I may let the box sit for a few more days hoping it gets updated because my passwords are quite complex, but I'm certainly not having a hissy fit about it or claiming Apple somehow lied to me.

Of course you can. That's what it was designed for.

Wasn't the new remote designed for the new AppleTV? How do you know it works with old Apple TV?

My mistake. I thought you were talking about the Remote app.

If you want to play it this way, then that means Apple is not to be trusted for anything unless they put it in writing?  And people should not put anything past them?

Sorry you couldn't quite follow my post. Your assessment of it made Apple sound that way. As I clearly indicated, I don't believe Apple is any of those.

If anyone's throwing anything close to a hissy fit, it might be you.

Add: And the next time, please be fair and quote all the relevant parts of the post you're replying to. You appear to have made a rather conscious error of omission, the sort of thing you're attributing to Apple because you may be prone to it. I am referring to the fact that you conspicuously left out the sentence that followed the part you cut and pasted.

I though Apple said it was the ONLY remote I would ever need? That's because its the only remote that will work. Clever reading between the lines like that.

Purchasing a film has been a bit of an issue too. By default it seems you can only buy HD formats; I prefer SD but there seems no way of selecting them on ATV4. In the end I got around it by purchasing via iTunes on my iMac.

On your ATV4, go into settings, select Apps, then select iTunes Moves and TV Shows. Select SD in the Video Resolution setting. Out of curiosity, why would you prefer SD?

Apple's Remote app doesn't work with the ATV4, neither do Bluetooth keyboards. The "one touch" WiFi setup from an iPhone is great, but the flick-back-and-forth UI for entering accounts/passwords for Netflix, Hulu, and HBO is horrid. I gave up. I'm sending mine back until Apple figures out a usable UI. SMH

This seems like something that should've been updated out of the gate along with Bluetooth keyboard compatibility. It's not like Apple hasn't been working on this product since forever. Also they're really needs to be a way to categorize apps. I downloaded a bunch but it appears they're just in random order on my screen. Perhaps the thought is you use Siri for everything but I'm not crazy about having to use Siri for everything I want to do. I would say most apps are definitely 1.0 right now. The HBO Go app is beautiful. Most of the rest are just grids of video screen shots with no full screen images. And some apps will have to be tweaked because they have white text on a light gray/white background and it's really hard to read the text. I also noticed with some of my Apple Music playlists I'm seeing black text on a black background. WTF?

I think apps can/will be really cool when developers take the time to do it right.

    RemoteGate

...Sorry I had to. <img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />  I wonder who will have to apologize for this now.

You can arrange the apps on the screen. Just highlight an app and hold down on the Touch Surface until the app starts wiggling. I'm hoping Apple adds the ability to create folders. I'm in serious need of a games folder.

A frustratingly odd omission it has to be said, I get they want to push you down the Siri route but given Siri can't work across all apps, music etc just makes searching that bit more difficult, to the point I don't bother.

I may be in the minority here, but I think the new remote and keyboard work great. Here's why... To switch between caps, upper and lower case, it's one swipe down and pick. Then when picking alphabetic characters, you just swipe left or right and once you get the velocity down, it's fast. Instead of multiple taps, you swipe once and maybe adjust. So less taps and almost all on one axis.

It would be nice to be able to send text to in via an app, but otherwise the new remote works very well in my opinion .

I assume they will add support for keyboards and an app, or they could be finally putting the computer keyboard to bed and going headlong into the future of voice interaction.

Yeah I wish there was a way at least to separate games from everything else. And I hope developer actually spend some time on their apps. Just seeing rows and rows of video thumbnails on a black background is so boring. HBO has the right idea.

Yeah I think text input is so much better than the other remote and the d-pad. But still using your phone or iPad to enter in passwords would be a lot easier.

I was expecting a much better product from Apple. I am going to be returning this AppleTV unfortunately.

    Two major problems:
    1) Netflix. The interface is terrible. No longer can you browse by television, film, or genre. I like to browse through current offerings and this interface is everything I hate with it on every other device I own like the PS4 and Xbox One. This is not Apple's fault. It is all on Netflix for designing such a shitty interface.

    2) The Remote app for the iPhone and AppleWatch is not compatible. I was able to swipe and hold which allow a scrolling effect. Gone. Now it requires repeated swipes on a tiny remote that can get easily lost. I want to be able to use my phone and watch.

Major disappointment. This was not ready for primetime yet. I'll wait until these issues are resolved before considering buying it again.

Ugh! So pissed off right now.

Perhaps that's what they do with their affirmative action hires. :)

Please keep the racism out of here.

What the heck does race have to do with affirmative action? Please go educate yourself.

So I got the 64gb Apple TV today. While prompted with password, I open the Remote app and ... geez... Not working. Then I read the Apple support page to find its incompatibility with the brand new Apple TV? And also there's no connection with a Bluetooth keyboard. This is insane!

Why do I have to use the Siri remote to painfully enter my complex iCloud password for some free apps but others (like NetFlix) install at the tap of the button? For that matter, why do I ever have to "buy" a free app? You can turn the need to enter a password off for free apps in iOS but it often asks me anyway (there seems to be no pattern to it other than perhaps software updates). On top of that there is no way to use a keyboard or the Apple Remote app. This is a real mess. I hope it gets cleaned up quickly.
