I’m still waiting for you to prove that the pro-gun lobby is behind the anti-gun lobby.
No one has said that. I said that the pro-gun lobby is behind the controversy. As actors sometimes say, there's no such thing as bad publicity, and so the NRA loves to get a good fight going. All they have to do is pretend some reasonable legislation like the bill to close loopholes is an attack on the Constitution, and sales go up.
Nothing is black and white. Religion has done and does some good things. They're simply outweighed by the negatives.
Belief in an unseen power is fine, until you try to force that belief on others...
Another bad thing: misrepresenting what others say.
"I'll vote against the NRA at every opportunity."
No matter what they support.
"As a foil to the Christian Right, I have no problem with them. Take away the Right however, and it's only a matter of time before their dogma becomes a problem."
Right or left is of little difference. All Christians are a problem. If not today then soon.
"...both racism and nationalism are easily incorporated into religion. Even the push for back doors to encryption has a faith-based... tinge to it!"
So still everything can be connected to that bad 'ol religion.
"Intolerance starts with Religion."
so more religion-is-bad beliefs.
"There is no difference between a "stupid superstitious cult" and your religion."
No matter what your beliefs may be if it can be tagged with religion it's just a stupid cult.
"Religion is about power consolidation, not good deeds"
By this point it should be clear to any reader of your comments that religion to you has no grey areas.
Oh, it's dark grey for sure. I'm not saying I'm neutral. Experience should teach you, so if you're neutral all the time, you're missing something. I'm only saying that while I do recognize the good aspects to Religion, I don't feel any need to point them out, since they do that themselves. It's important to shed some light on the wrong they do, since that's normally covered up and ignored.
As I've said often here, you can believe in any God you like. Just don't try to write those beliefs into law.
Here, in Germany, the immigrant debate is of course being discussed on a daily level. Some bring up the point of remembering the times when Germans fled eg to the South Americas, and therefore we should do the same.
In asking: do you think those people back then behaved in the same way current Muslim immigrants behave here in terms of thankfully and respectfully and quietly integrate with the place you arrive? Did they demand that there must be immediatel changes in those countries to reflect their cultural, religious and others needs by demanding free living, food according to their ideas, free healthcare, different dress codes, host countries speak their language etc? Or did they stfu and try to integrate? Some bring up the idea what would have happened if native Americans would have rejected the colonists as unwanted immigrants. Well, I'm no expert but I suppose if you'd ask them today, confined to small territories, after having been slaughtered and suppressed long time, then probably they'd say yes, on ho Dwight we might have managed this differently. And no, not all immigrants are terrorists. I'm just wondering why eg there is such a huge rate of young single men coming in. Ah, they star that they don't want to burden their families with the long and heavy journey. Come again? They prefer to leave their families in a war site? Sounds credible. Apart from that, while not all are terrorists, you do have a percentage of fundamentalists, potential and actual terrorists entering. It is a real risk. You say we have to eat this risk on behalf of all these "good" people in need of help? Go ahead then and tell this to the surviving family members of Paris attack. Or imagine your family being hit by a terrorist attack. Still the same view? Having Muslim immigrants enter is deliberately increasing the risk for terrorism. You cannot avoid it. And if not through infiltrating terrorists then by having terrorists put your country on the shit list because you chose to help their enemies. Also, curiously, we have a lot of immigrants from very different countries and cultures. Issues around immigration, however, only arise where there is lack of willingness to integrate. Now guess which group this almost exclusively applies to here.
Oh, and about guns: well the same as for immigrants applies: allowing a broader group of people to own a gun is deliberately accepting th increase of risk of "not good things" to be committed through this. I'm not saying you don't increase the chance of potentially doing "good things" like defending yourself as well. Just you're increasing the risk of the dark side as well.
Oh yes, and denying the validity of Darwins fundamental theory exhibits a very high level of willful denial of circumstantial evidence, to say the least.
Nothing is black and white. Religion has done and does some good things. They're simply outweighed by the negatives.

The Christian Right is the biggest oxymoron ever. I've never seen a group of people go against the ideals they claim to subscribe to.
Actually, more than half of NRA members (I believe it was close to 90%) are in favor of closing the background check loop hole for gun shows. It's the gun makers that out vote them.
Introducing bills to increase background checks is light years away from coming for your guns. Equating the two is much worse than disingenuous.
The NRA is a compromised organization. You're right to say they represent the manufacturers interests more than the person owning the firearms. The GOA is a far better organization (the link is in my sig line).
Quoting some right wing blog doesn't change the fact the front running Republican candidate is a populist-exploiting phony clown who endorses both Nazi concentration camps and Soviet style wall construction to appease the racist, white-supremacist base of the Tea Party. Trump knows republicans are easily exploited by fear mongering. He's playing conservatives as fools.
Making excuses for his wild antics just shows how incredibly insane the remaining base of religious conservative fundamentalists are.
I usually don't get into these political debates but you're right.
Trump was talking about immigrants and building a wall to stop them but in recent years immigration from Mexico had actually REVERSED. Meaning, more Mexicans are actually going back to their home country than coming in. So Trump is full of sh** and just preying on the fearful like you said.
(Unless he wants to build a wall to stop immigrants from LEAVING??)

So Trump's ugly talk about hard working Mexicans is going his way, if they are leaving the USA !

You're going to believe the one study that was then parroted by the rest of the main stream media?
You think the government has any clue whatsoever on the number of Mexicans that crossed illegally and then returned illegally? Common, you have to be brighter than that. People around here all the time ask for proof for claims and yet everyone takes this as the truth. Can one of these news organizations please camp out on the border to verify these claims? You know like the evil "Faux News" did to document them coming over? I'll even help out, when filming all of these "Mexicans going back to Mexico" remember the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. You'll need to adjust the timestamp on your recordings by twelve hours.
Finally, lets just pretend for one second that this is true. What does that say about the current administration and the state of our country? Mexicans see a better opportunity for their families in a country filled with corruption and drug wars than they do here? If I were the president I wouldn't want this "statistic" to be one of my talking points...

They are looking ahead and see BIG USA TROUBLE when ugly abusive Trump gets control of the USA.
Trump could even start wars with his CRAP talk !!!

Wow so Trump is able to control illegal immigration even before getting into office? What a welcome relief from the current president who wasn't able to do a damn thing about it in 8 years except blame his predecessor about almost everything.

Based on todays "shoot to kill" news in the USA, the Mexicans are probably leaving the USA to avoid being shot by their USA neighbour, over a simple disagreement.
That more likely and difficult to predict in the USA than being shot in a drug war anywhere.

So the world is all black and white to you? No consideration needed because . . .
Organized Religion=Always Bad.
Belief in an unseen power=Always bad.
NRA=Always Bad.
Republicans=Always Bad.
Hmm. . .
No, I think John McCain was a good man prior to his loss to W.

The NRA was once an organization by and for gun owners. That was fine. Now that its the marketing arm for gun makers, its motives are all wrong.
Another bad thing: misrepresenting what others say.
The ‘controversy’ being... that people desire the revocation of personal gun ownership rights.
What, like loopholes for felons or the mentally ill? I don’t see how illegal laws banning the capacity of weaponry for all citizens fits into that.
No matter what they support.
