Standard isn’t always best when many cards have better rewards than 2%. Also, my standard purchases are extremely low compared to other categories. There’s practically nowhere that I purchase things that I can’t get at least 3% back and up to 5% on most things.
Depends on how one defines "best", doesn't it? The Amazon Prime Store Card, for example, gives you 5% back... with a 28.24% annual APR.
Apple committed to a low (albeit unspecified) APR, with no fees, no late charges, and no penalties. Not to mention the not-so-minor fact that you get your rewards back daily as Apple Cash. Not at the end of the month, not when you redeem them. Daily.
Then there's the secure unique randomized card number per transaction. No number or signature to steal on the physical card. No tracking of purchases. No sales of transaction data.
I don't know about you, but there's a ton of value in privacy and security.
What am I going to do with that extra $1 a day, so many decisions to make.

They are setting their card up to be massively popular. I’m guessing that the personalizes, titanium card with laser etching will probably be a widely posted to social media because of it being a status symbol and because there’s no additional personal data to steal with a photograph.

Fees and APRs don’t matter if you pay your balance in full.
You realize that being able to pay off your cards every month isn’t the norm, right?
This looks great. My Apple ID is tied to external credit card, so I'm guessing somehow the Apple Card will need to be tied to a bank account. I'm sure it will be obvious on signup.
I'm kinda curious to see how this will work in a family share. Can I give a family member my card to use, then the bill comes to me as well? Again, likely obvious in the details.
Nice. Hope it's available in Canada. ApplePay is theoretically here, but I've gone through three cards without finding one that worked on the system. I'd like to start using ApplePay.
I have used Apple Pay in Canada for years. I have a "regular bank card" Visa, as well as have used with corporate Amex and MasterCard. I know many people that use it.
I would venture that Apple Pay use is far more widespread in Canada than the US, as a large portion of retail (in food service and related industries) all have contactless "tap" options, where the the US is more limited at this time.
For all those moaning about 2% and saying they get a lot more with other cards, that usually applies to limited time offers and purchases at specific locations. So fine, as others have posted, use those cards for those specialty purchases and use Apple's 2% card everywhere else. My Discover card offers 5% on promotional items and 1% everywhere else so I'll use Discover for promotional purchases and an Apple card everywhere else, and cash at gas stations offering cash discounts.

And sometimes people forget. I had set mine up for payment one time at the bank that didn't work, so had that late payment charge (I was able to get them to refund it as I could show how I always pay off, but it still took time to do it). Much better to have no late fee in the first place.

Really cool.
My guess is that you’ll be able to add the card to any number of devices.
My question is how can the physical card be utilized for online payments that require the CVV (that doesn’t also offer Apple Pay as an option).

She mentioned you could get the card #/CVV from the Apple Wallet. Guessing that's unique-per-transaction information. Or possibly unique-per-vendor, allowing you to setup recurring payments.

Yep. That’s why I don’t have an auto payment for anything that could cause interest charges so I can be more vigilant. I have an “Accounts” calendar to help remind me.
I have called banks to have the rare misstep corrected. They’ve all agreed to remove charges, except for one. I used CareCredit for LASIK thinking I was going to work the system of their 0% interest, but I was a day late on my final payment so I was back charged all the interest. 🙇♂️
1) It's about time someone stepped up to offer a financial incentive to using Apple Pay.
2) That card looks great and I'm glad there is no signature on it. I never understood why that was ever a thing, like some minimum wage retail employee can gauge whether my sig was forged or wether I was just lazy in signing.
You’re such an elitist. Some of the best and most intelligent people start out as a “minimum wage retail employee”. Stop acting like you’re better than everyone all the time.
Your response here is way off the wall. He was just pointing out how useless signatures are with respect to credit cards. I once had a card refused because the Ink was smudged off due to years of use. Kind of asinine considering the signature has zero value in identifying me alone.
Of all the announcements today, this is perhaps the most interesting. At first I rolled my eyes but, as the presentation continued, it became clear that Apple has genuinely added value to the credit card experience. That said, I get 3.6% back on every purchase with no limits or category restrictions, so Apple's rewards aren't as good as what I already have. I love the simplified statement and clear merchant identification, though. I wonder how long it will be until we see a full-blown financial management app baked into iOS and macOS.
Getting this to replace my Costco Citibank VISA card. Better rewards program.
Will costco allow the MasterCard version or does their Apple Pay use hide the credit card type?
Keep using Costco Citi. Their extended warranty and price rewind trumps all. Just got a rewind credit on an Apple Series 4. BH Photo flash sale beat Apple Store. Adds 2 extra years to warranty, up to 7 years.

During the presentation, she said that the info that is not printed on the card would be available in Wallet. You would also need an expiration date in addition to the CVV.
Curious too as to whether there can be multiple users, each with the card in their Wallet.
This was the most exciting part of the entire event. Meh, news... Meh, games.... Meh, easier to sign up for HBO/Showtime. Meh... 99.9% of those new shows are going to flop hard. Except for Spielberg.
The #1 used App on my Apple TV? Plex hands down. YouTube would be #2. I curate my own content and Plex is THE platform. Until things get that good, nothing else will satisfy.

Sure that is true but sometimes a 100% payoff doesn’t matter. What is interesting here, and kinda alluded too is that credit card companies / banks reward the customers with the high interest rates charged to the less responsible. It will be interesting to see if Apple can make these return rates work for them and maintain true low interest rates.
