apple tablet (conf.....)
yah...spymac
\
but we need a thread on this one
from spymac:
The unnamed tablet system -- featuring an 8.4" backlit TFT-display and built-in Airport Extreme -- will be marketed as a 'Home Portable' and will be targeted towards a specific demographic of users who want the portability of laptop but who do not require the power or diversity of Apple's current portable offerings. It is very much designed for home-use and, our source speculates, will be pushed for its Internet and connectivity capability.
Full technical specifications are not available at this time, though battery life is said to be targeted for up to five hours and the unit is operated via touchscreen and displayed keyboard. A docking station, which will include an external keyboard and mouse, will be available for an additional charge.

oki...now... i can see this..lots of apple branded devices to follow...a new mouse..a new keyboard..an external superdrive...whatever...a mac in display format would be pretty..even with a 700mhz g3
anyone?

i think an 800mhz g3 is cheaper than an 800mhz g4 and they are almost equal in performance...but.. i want apple to go away from the g3 and make g4 across the line

Apple will introduce .........i****v2 !!!!
-It is i****v2 ! - Maybe named iPAD ?
-I don't know exact name for it . I will call it iPAD now on.
It has OS X lite OS with Netboot client mode.
- OS X in Any macintosh can be Netboot server for iPAD. iMac, ibook are also included.
It can boot from Airport II !. And because it is Client software, it does not need reboot iPAD! it will just replace it's own window with servers window.
And no speed decrease since all the calculation is done on Server!
And it is using OS X -lite that it can be use by itself. We will have many many S/W for the Lite version. The QuickTime is the first of it and you can playback Quicktime file and read PDF E-book without server.
And thanks to domino chip inside of each Mac, you will be able to see live NFL anywhere using MPEG-4 streaming.
- I have to do some work now . Part5 will continue soon. sorry

Well New imac design is quiet interesting.
Here is last part.
And you can use this as controller for Home network !
Think that you can connect this device from anywhere in the home or outside of home and you can do exactly same thing as you do on Desktop!
And when you go out, it became small notebook except keyboard and mouse.
The most interesting thing is that it can connect to Mobile phone with optional kit!
It will use blue tooth technology to connect with your Mobile phone to connect internet without Mobile phone out of your poket!
so you will be able to connect anywhere ! And it is compatible with Wi-Fi standard that it will be able to work in starbucks with a cup of coffee too !
This has built in Palm like functions so it can be act as PDA.
And also it has itune in it too.
You heard about it enough.
Here is the iPAD !.
he shows the A4 size tablet device.
Now if you see under the seat with seat number end with 0, you will be able to see it !
The screen size is 10 inch and it has 5GB Hard disk! Also Firewire port, USB port ,earphone, and PC Card slot for optional card. airport II is built-in and Docking port.
Steve: And this not end of it !.
We are introducing iPAD station : iStation!
it is small Set-top Box which is connected to Digital & analog TV and internet and it can connect to Home network !
You can put iPAD on it and it recharge from the docking port and you will be able to use it as screen mode of this.
It use G3 chip set and capable of small server.
It can record TV program and it has built in Mail system for home use!
Also you can use it as jukebox for iTune!
- Many rumor site might be confused this with possible LCD iMac design. Since it look a lot like detachable system.
Now today , APPLE announce the future of Consumer computing and Pro computing.
I hope you to enjoy the show thank you.
Steve go out of stage for real this time.
Everybody stand-up and cheer does not stop at all.
I think Apple's mission has been successful.

hang it on the wall!
imagine!!
Is this a confirmation... or a confirmed disinformation release? We shall see.
Screed
SOunds like someone has an old one-off from the Apple skunk works.
Unless it will be a remote control for TVs, VCRs, Tivo, Dish/DirecTV, Stereo systems.....
Hmmm, a programmable universal remote that runs apps, surfs the net, and emails?
Ya know. I'd buy that. I could kill three remotes, surf during commercials, and it could be programmed so that maybe the buttons (onscreen) woudl be big enough for my Dad to read them.
Nah, gotta be a old one-off.

Yes precisely. I want one of them iPADs too...how much liquid do they absorb again? I need it for my 'heavy' days.
That's a Newton replacement.
Seriously, that's an uberPDA... a PDA that can hook into your home network cleanly, is big enough for real use, small enough for easy portability? *drool*
I did read the article. Infra-red for Internal use. But why?
Infra-red is only used on Palm-type devices nowadays (and that's fading out, replaced by bluetooth). Including it in even a prototype is clue to the protoype's age.
And a clue that it may be old, old news that never will arrive.
I hope such a thing does arrive, but this news is a strike against it I think.
We have received surprisingly detailed information about the small injection molded enclosure previously mentioned here. Our plastics contact has given us sufficient details to realize that this product is some sort of mini-tablet device. And, it has just gone into actual production.
What we have been told by a technical source inside the company injecting the enclosure is:
- It is 132mm high, 188mm wide, and 24.6mm thick.
- The front face is completely open, other than a 7.5mm bezel.
- The top edge has an 18mm x 106mm recessed well (no door). The recessed surface is 7mm deep, and is being molded with 4 through-holes for PCB-mounted connectors.
- The underside has two compartment openings; one is 66mm x 106mm; no cover is being injected at the same plant. The other is 24mm x 66mm with a "flip open" door; this door is being injected at the same plant. The recess behind the flip-open door is being molded with just two, "small, rectangular" openings, not recognized as any standard connector size.
- The right edge of the enclosure has a round and a rectangular through-hole, described only as "small."
- Stand-off and other interior details of the enclosure indicate that it uses one motherboard, an LCD module, and has a snap-in, removable battery on its back face.
- The enclosure has just now gone into actual production in "large quantities."MacWhispers
Both Jobs and Shiller already said they did not see any futur for those products and I agree with them.
The first Tablet PC are arriving on the market and I do not notice any interest in them. This is no rocket science.
Writing on a screen is as natural as trying to paint the sixteen chapel with your feet.
Tablets are expensive. Naturally, you do not feel like writing on this screen and take the risk of scratching it.
It's OK to scratch a 499$ Palm's screen. It is less OK to scratch a 1000$ + devise.
All PocketPCs and Palms have very good handwriting recognition and yet thousand of portable keyboards are being sold with them.
They are supposed to be portable but who will carry them. Salesmen ?
Salesmen want to remain natural in the way they behave in front of customers and do not want to look dumb carrying their tablet around in the factory.
I think that this box is a visual terminal for the Xserve line to accomodate users in the same way as discribed in this article from Maccentral.
Just a guess.
http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/...27/xserveipod/
but none have HW recog as good of the HW recog as newton 2.0 did...writing on newt 2.0 was very natural to me.
and just think how much it may have been improved by now...
i hate graffiti.
>Both Jobs and Shiller already said they did not see any futur for those products and I agree with them.
if this thing exists, they simply won't call it a tablet. its all in the marketing. if they call this a "home portable" they not only define a new class of products but set themselves apart fromthe whole tablet thing which as you mentioned is not catching on.
> Tablets are expensive.
so are ipaqs. but they are selling since you can do a lot of windows-computer-like things on it. (more so than a palm)

Well, either SpyMac or MacWhispers is wrong. Don't any of you remember your trigonometry?
a squared + b squared = c squared
a= 5 b=7 c = 8.6

actually, if you take into account the bezel that is mentioned, the dimensions of the open area would be 8.19" in diameter.. sounds about right for an 8" screen with a bit of border around it...
