They were still selling last year, but not anymore apparently. I think they were upgrades for Daystar machines only, and the way it worked was each cpu had it's own PCI card, and was connected that way. Dunno how effective it would be tho'.....
edit: Woops. Looks like I spoke too soon. Checked their site again and found the product still available. Quad proc card (g3 or g4?), that fits into a PCI slot on any Apple or Intel machine?
I gonna assume that the plethora of 1ghz g4's available (see the upgrade makers) means that more stable chips are available at 1 ghz. Usually, this means that less stable chips at a higher freq are available. With unstable chips, they downgrade them, and sell them as lower rated chips. This means a definite speed bump next month.
Now, the question (to anyone who knows about this)....
In the past, what has the pattern been for MOTO's downgrades? ie. With the present 1ghz chips, how much did they get downgraded (on average) for remarket?
If we know this, it should give us a reasonable expectation for next month's speed bump......

Experience showed, that you could overclock most processors by 10-20%. As you state correctly, some lots could not be overclocked at all and some could be overclocked quit well. I used a G3/300 overclocked to 350MHz@50Hz for two years before it started to act weird. Turning it back to 300@40Hz gave it another year.
Listen to Moki -- he's the only one around with anything close to credibility.

Ah, but I didn't tell you the reason for the mobo delay, or the reason why you shouldn't hold your breath waiting for the G5.
In a nutshell, there is no G5 -- it will be called the Q5 (more on the significance of the "Q" in a moment).
The reason why the mobo has been delayed is that Apple is having trouble with the optical interface between their memory controller and the new Quantum CPU that will be the heart of Apple's next generation machines (thus, Q5).
Many Bothans have died to bring you this information.
Topping out at 1.2ghz looks likely, but with a 166mhz bus and DDR.
In terms of real world performance, an improved memory subsytem -- especially given OS X's propensity for shuffling around huge amounts of data -- will make a huge difference.

Moki, I'd love to know how much weight you (and Programmer give to different factors in arriving at your opinion here.
There's been tons of thought on the various advantages & disadvantages in mobo design & implementation, but here are some things I don't remember seeing addressed by you guys:
[li]What effect do you think XServe-style L3 DDR cache(s) will have on AltiVec performance?
[li]What speed improvements do you think we'll see from unburdening the CPU(s) (ie: Quartz Extreme,; Firewire & Ethernet gaining DMA to DDR main RAM; etc)?
Lowest Model = 933MHz/128MB RAM/CDRW/15" LCD/ higher bus
Mid Model = 933GHz/256MB RAM/CDRW/17" LCD/ higher bus
High Model = 1GHz/512MB RAM/CDRW/17"LCD/ higher bus
Then G4's just get dual, that shouldn't cost too much but it would increase performance and specs alot...well the 17" might make it more expensive, but to increase a system bus it can't cost alot right?
Dual with OS X and better RAM to processor speeds i hear about, wow

Ok. That means I`ll be able to do full realtime online HD editing on my Mac through sub-atomic mind-control manipulation next year.
And I won`t need a fireplace, I`ll just use the fusion powered reactor they use for a power supply.

And many more should have, it seems.
But I want bio-computers, quantum is lame... PotatoMac, anyone?

But surely an optical pathway is going to be a bottleneck for the Q5! Now if Apple licensed that photon-teleportation technology that was recently announced... The light would leave the CPU and arrive at the RAM without traversing the distance in between!
Screed ...FTL Computing - answers before the questions are asked!!

Starting mid july, Apple will give you a free Athlon 5Ghz for rendering the work you do on the G4. So you'll be able to work in your confortable OS but still get the speed needed.
Many thanx....I knew the Genesis came in Dual, but didn't know/remember they came in quad versions....

Ahhh, I remember when that came out. I wanted one so badly! How cool if we could have quad G4s or something with an updated mobo.
You'll notice I don't post about this much anymore. The thing is I wouldn't believe Spymac if they told me it was going to be a rainy day in Oregon ( and it usually is ).
I just think despite the chicken bones you guys throw ( or what ever you use ) nobody knows a thing about what Apple is going to do.
It's been a long time since they did. I'm not suggesting stopping or shutting AI down but I wouldn't put too much faith in the things you read here.
WHich, Kids, is why you don't put any part of your body between the Quantum Power Supply and the Quantum Processor! And people thought the all in one Macs were dangerous to work on!

Don't know about a retail machine, but TotalImpact used to make 604e and g3 multiproc upgrades.

Well, there was a retail machine that had Quad 604s. Daystar Digital made it and it was called the Genesis MP. Look it up

What is this?!? Moki is actually telling us stuff straight out, no beating around the bush, no 'I am under NDA' disclaimers...
And now we are hearing that there 'is no G5' but that what we are gonna get is the new Quantum CPU...
Either Moki is REALLY jerking our collective chains, or he is burning a few bridges...
All shall be revealed in a few short (long...) weeks...
[EDIT] At one point, there was a sentence above where Moki said; "There you are, blew it all in one clean shot..." [EDIT]
Cheers!
