It makes sense, at least to me, that servers and assorted hardware will be differentiated from stand alone Power Macs by NOT including "Mac" in their title.

    Educational- eMac

    Consumer- iBook,iMac, iPod,(eMac??)

Creative Professionals- PowerMac, PowerBook, Mac Server G4

    Industrial High End- Xserve, Xstation

My bet is that August 13 will bring miniature Xstations with mobos like the Xserve and simply speed bumped Power Macs.</strong><hr></blockquote>

    Makes sense to me.

In other words, you're up for a brand X Mac?

It would also make a lot more sense if the "X" was lower case (i.e. xMac not Xmac).

"X" is pronounced "ten" for OS X, whereas "X" is pronounced "ecks" for Xserve. I dunno, but this inconsistent branding bothers me.

A friend of mine who used to work for Apple told me that Apple IS going to release new hardware.

He didn't say what kind of new hardware, nor what line it would affect, nor any details on specs and of course no release date either, but he said there were going to be new machines.

Man I'm soooo excited about that, I'd NEVER have thought Apple would release new hardware, I mean, this is AMAZING!!!

    ...or is it just pathetic?

Are you sure they said the 7500 was on the drawing board? I think he may have been saying dart board

Ok, I have official confirmation of the new "X" product from apple, details as follows:

Microsoft's XBox will actually be the hardware used, with OS XXX ported to it. XXX is a yet to be announced product by Apple, and is built especially for an enhanced porn viewing experience. The system is code named "Leopard" after the pattern which consumes the desktop environment. There will no keyboard, and no mouse, but a vaguely described "manual stimulation device" has been seen with the system. Also, the "X" will use 10 G5s, hold 8 Terabytes of RAM on a 3GHz bus, and a new technology will allow for you to store all of your porn on Apple's webservers for free, "for life" or until apple decides to charge for it. The product will also be wireless, the size of a quarter, have a 22in Cinema HD display built in, and will only cost $69. This has all been confirmed by a source working close with Apple and its janitorial department. However, the product is not expect to sell very well, as rumor sites will leak the specs and cause everyone to wait for the next revision.

Come on, I have just as much evidence support my product as you do yours. Get some facts, man.

OK, so here's my question. Will the 10 G5s be used to provide heat to the manual stimulation device.

Xmac will be a "thin client" Mac that net-boots off of an Xserve. It will have a similar form factor to a Cinema Display, a 19 inch version, looking something like what everyone THOUGHT the new flat-panel iMac was going to look like.

That might indeed be the best source yet.

IBM did this netboot thing in the early 90's with their RS/6000's and....wait for it... an XStation. Come on Apple, we need something better than this! Only 10 years late.

    Dart board.

Some Macheads may feel this way about Moto's G5...

Sorry about the confusion. Drawing board was a stupid word to use. He just mentioned 7500 and coming soon. Sorry guys I really don't have to many details but the little information I have is real. I'd love you tell you that the G5 is coming for sure in august but what I got from the conversation is that apple will be putting out high end work stations for high end computing. For all the people bashing me next time i'll just keep my mouth shut.

    Great link!

I seem to remember that the first iterations of OSX Server had a net boot capability. There was quite a lot of talk about educational institutions finding the technolgy useful. I don't know if OSX stll has this capability.

Anyway,I wonder, with Quartz Extreme and a rack full of Xserves do companies that do a lot of animation and rendering need anything more in a workstation than an 800mhz G4 and one heck of a GPU?

ok although I screwed up the format yesterday and got spanked by a ruler... actually forget that part.

I think the info about the X mac series holds more ground than you people give credit. If apple is getting geared up for a new line of computers then they must have new stuff to put in them. This means that we will see major increases in performance with these new X macs and not just small speed bumps. Although we do not know for sure if the powerMac will change to the PowerMac X or not we do know that X is going to be in the name of something. This tells us that the new products will follow the Xserve have DDR ram, new architecture and so on. With an inpending release of new PowerMacs the following facts fit nicely to confirm that these new macs will be a new generation of computers from apple.

Hopefully G5s but since everyone has been thinking of the G5 as the 8000 series of chips from motorola (they will be the 7500) apple will call them the PowerMac X1 series, thus departing form the G's that have given them so much trouble. And giving no one the right to complain about wether they are the real G5's or not. I think of the 7500 as thhe G4.5 but thats just me.

<a href="http://www.xmac.com"; target="_blank">www.xmac.com</a> <a href="http://www.xbook.com"; target="_blank">www.xbook.com</a> if these ever get taken over... then be ready for some apple products...

If Apple were to go into the workstation market they really need to do it right, cheap, fast and not over the top... don't need an 80GB HD in there, run most of the stuff remotely, could coincide with NetBoot for OS X (woohoo ****ing hoo for that, i've been waiting too long) and Network Install (but mounting a remote disk image works just as well, that was my work around)...

    Points of discussion,

? More detail og poster, or stop it with the this guy i know peed next to steve jobs cousin at dodger stadium said blah blah blah.

? Is apple freaking nuts packaging Jaguar that way? I have a friend who works at a retail store and management is really worried, they are hoping this is just for the website that they are doing this, probably because they really don't want to have jaguar print on the outside of their store, it looks ridiculous.

Actually tekmember got the point as we say here in France.

I can tell you from the MacBidouille 'XMac' I saw with my eyes that he is indeed correct.

Don't take it personally. People posting scoop to these boards often get raked over the coals, yet without people posting info (truthful or otherwise), Future Hardware would have no reason to exist. You keep right on posting. It beats listening to people panic over the latest PIV or AMD benchmarks.

Oh yeah, don't confuse trash-talk for lack of respect. Everybody starts out with X amount of respect here, spurious rumors and insider tips can whittle away at that respect.

That's the game, don't feel singled out!
