If you have something other than a D-Link router I can't help, anyway, hope you got/get it working without too much frustration.

I posted this over at AppleNova's Forums, so I thought I would post it here and see what the reaction is...

So Motorola is expected to announce the ROKR iTunes Phone Monday as part of its Annual Financial Analyst Meeting. According to AI, Steve Jobs might attend.

    How about this though?

What if Steve Jobs is there to help show off the phone and the new range of iBooks which have Motorola cell phone technology built right in? (Like the Sony VAIO T350)

The event takes place at 8:00 P.M. eastern time Monday, so it should be interesting to see what happens around that time!

VERY bad idea. Just buy a card from Nokia or S//E if you need it. It would pose too high a cost for us who don´t need it.

If they had Bluetooth as standard in far most cases they would have same functionality (since BT is standard in most phones today)

I would beg to differ that it's a "VERY bad idea." I personally don't care whether it happens, I just thought it might be a remote possibility. You're right on Bluetooth...it should be standard.

Apple can improve the iBook in other ways too: Brigher displays with wider viewing angles, widescreen displays, better battery life, better keyboard (so the letters don't chip off over time), etc.

I'd love that (512 onboard), but it's not going to happen. The 12" PB only has 256 MB onboard - this would give the iBook a higher total RAM capacity than the Powerbook!! No way.

I would be very surprised if they did not qualify. I used that promotion last year to buy my 4G iPod, even though the promotion started well before the 4G iPods were announced. I figured the 4Gs wouldn't qualify, that the promotion would be limited to the old stock. But the 4Gs qualified just fine, so I'd expect the same thing to be true if they release new iBooks.

Like the E, the E2 I replaced it with has a measly 90-day warranty. I didn't get any extended coverage, hoping by the time it breaks (if not sooner) I'll be ready to replace it anyway. Ideally it'll last until I upgrade so I can give it to my wife, which is what I'd planned to do with the E but now it's too unusable for her (I could barely manage it in its crippled state).

A few Mac users on the Missing Sync list recently posted that they've grown tired of Palm-related troubles (e.g. iSync support is lame) and are considering migrating to a Pocket PC even though they're not fond of Microsoft. For now Palm is still my best option and the E2 does nearly everything I want. Switching hardware and buying new software wasn't practical or affordable but eventually I may seriously consider the alternatives.

With the same resolution I'd choose the smaller one, as I did with the 12" G3 iBook.

I base that on the Dell Inspiron 700m I just got - it is a 12" widescreen, with cheap plastics, but a beautiful 1280 x 800 12" widescreen LCD.

That would certainly tempt me in an iBook. Gee, am I back on topic now?

I sure hope the 512MB is soldered to the board, so I don't end up tossing a 256MB chip to upgrade.

Seems unlikely, as someone mentioned. Still, better that than tossing a 512MB SODIMM for 1GB. Two expansion slots would be nice, but also unlikely. Apple's stance on RAM options remains frustrating, e.g. no zero-RAM purchase option, which increases the need to replace a DIMM to get the amount you really want in two-slot systems.

www.pacificneotek.com Omni remote. Not sure whether thats just for OS5 or not, but they could have a version for OS4

What happened to palm? Has anyone north of the equator heard of the Treo 650? Syncs perfectly with iCal, Address Book, has PalmOS applications suited to every occupation, is a full featured mobile phone with camera and video capture...

... a 1GB SD card for $60 is now chock full of videos, movies, photos, and music which appear stunning on the high rez and uber bright color screen...

... it comes with free adobe / word / excel software to edit mail attachments and send them off again...

... very bright QWERTY keyboard for full email, full text messaging, and full internet browsing...

    um, hello???

Sheesh -- I take any media file, drag it to the "Send to Handheld" droplet on my finder windows, and then hotsync it in. The 350mhz intel processor is snappy.

For larger video files, I drag it to a compressor --> treo droplet to get it down to size, and then "send it to handheld" again.

i agree that 12" iBook should not butt up against the 12" powerbook, maybe apple will leave the 12" iBook at 256mb built in because the 12" powerbook does come with 512mb built in

No, they don't. Go to the Apple Store, not the inconclusive Tech Specs (which only say that the PB has 512 MB of RAM, not whether it is onboard or not). When you configure the 12" PB, it clearly states in the memory option that you are getting 256 onboard + 256 DIMM.

Or alternatively, you could actually read the entire spec page that you linked to. For the 12", it says: "512MB of PC2700 (333MHz) DDR SDRAM; one SO-DIMM slot; support for up to 1.25GB" Are you implying that the 12" Powerbook uses special 768 MB SO-DIMMs to achieve its 1.25 GB max RAM capacity?? Funny that I've never seen them sold anywhere. And it's really too bad it can't take advantage of the common 1 GB DIMMs like all the other notebooks out there.

I repeat, unless they update the PBs (unlikely), I guarantee there is no way the new iBooks will get 512 MB onboard. (in the incredibly unlikely event that I am wrong, I will be embarrassed but happy)

    Too little, too late.

Most Nokias and Sony Ericssons do it better and in a smaller package. My T610 was all I really needed for sync duties and the P910i I also have is smaller than the Treo and just as useful, plus it was available 9 months earlier and FREE on my phone plan.

It's a real pity the USA isn't as up with Europe on phone technology though as it seems to take Apple ages to implement syncing for models that are out in Europe but aren't in the USA.

Someone mentioned earlier in this thread the possibility of inbuilt Motorola phone technology. Why? just stick in bluetooth. I'd really not want Motorola phone tech in my laptop unless Moto have developed some kind of easy roaming between wifi and 3G for voice/data calls and they'd left the software up to Apple entirely and not let their crappy interface team anywhere near my computers.

    how embarrassing

my bad, nothing to see here, move along

man! that is totally DECEPTIVE apple marketing!

    bad apple! bad! *spank*

i'm still holding on to the hope that the 12" iBook then will have 256onboard and the 14" will have 512mb onboard. hope burns eternal

Both should have 512 built-in with an empty slot. All Macs should have at least that, IMO.

Um, Aegis, time to crawl back into that Euro hole you crawled out of. You proclaim that most Nokias and Sony Ericsssons have mobile capabilities beyond what is available in the US?

Let's see, take the Treo 650, any PocketPC enabled phone, or a Blackberry device and have certainly much more than any Nokia Brick or a Sony dialpad could provide.

Again, with the Treo you can open up word / excel / adobe email attachments, edit them fully, then send them off. Which Sony can do that with again?

    Thanks for playing, good-bye...
