Yes, the DDR isn't going completely to waste because the drives use the full DDR speed - that's why I said that the system controller can swap stuff around with I/O at DDR rates.</strong><hr></blockquote>
well... I don't know for sure but perhaps due to a laptop hard drive's weak performance and other slower subsystems... that advantage is mute..

Mine is still in being reviewed. I'm assuming this is because my student ID/transcript is being processed to qualify my purchase for academic developer purchase. Anyone else in the same boat with their order being held as 'Being Reviewed'? I got the 1ghz with superdrive.

I am now thinking back to when I purchased my G3 Black PowerBook, and in a matter of a few weeks, the Titanium model was released. I was sick, but I stuck with it until recently when it was stolen at the airport. Luckily for me it was covered by insurance. After that valuable lesson, I started reading the rumor pages and waited and waited a litttle longer. I am so glad I waited, because I just ordered the 1 GHz PowerBook G4 SuperDrive,,,and I am now saying thank you to all those great Gods of Gossip... I can't wait !!!
I have a question for ya. I went into the ADC program and looked up the Powerbook. The prices for Fast Faster and Fastest are 1839, 2799, and 2399. That is the first odd thing. The next oddity is when you upgrade the RAM to 1GB...it bumps the price of the Fastest to up over 3000. Why?

I don't know that they are going to be changing back to the "cheap" prices or not...I had a 1ghz, superdrive, 1GB RAM saved order last night, I check it today, and it was "flagged" and no longer available for purchase as being invalid. Oh well. If it isn't fixed by tomorrow night, I'll just buy it through the EDU store.
Oh, this is the revision I have been waiting out for. You can see by my specs below this will be a pretty significant upgrade for me, and hopefully in a few months I can get a 19 inch widescreen Apple LCD to go with it.

The AppleStore at Tice's Corner NJ and the Soho store in NYC will take the order via your education account right there in the store, assuming you have established one. Remember, though, BTO macs may not be in stock that day, but you can pick them up in a short time. Of course you can often walk out with what you want if it is in stock.

a) an upgrade for current PB owners to a Superdrive, or
b) an external firewire DVD-burner that's compatible with iDVD
so that ALL of us can burn DVD without paying $1000?
