  • Apple shifts iOS 14 development strategy to cut buggy releases

That’s ridiculous. Unfinished code or known buggy code should never be checked into the daily build. That’s software development 101. Something is seriously out of control if developers have been checking stuff in prematurely.

Not really. Microsoft doesn't sell Windows for ARM. The only version that I am aware of is the Windows 11 Insider Preview ARM64. That's not a generally available version. There's a lot less to this announcement than is implied.
Parallels already had a simple install for Windows 11 Insider Preview ARM64 - super slick and super quick!

I think the main takeaway is Microsoft won't go out of their way to break ARM64 installs if they aren't on  computers with Qualcomm CPUs.
Agreed, the Parallels install and support for Windows 11 Insider Preview works very well. The integration between the two operating systems works extraordinarily well. What I object to is the first sentence of the article.

"You can get Windows onto an Apple Silicon MacBook Air."

No you can't unless you are enrolled in the Microsoft's Windows Insider program.

  • Apple Vision Pro gets more comfortable with Kontor Head Strap

I find the need to pay for a 3rd party workaround a bit irritating. I purchased the Belkin head strap add-on ($50) and it does, indeed, reduce some of the pressure on the nasal bridge but it annoys me to have had to shell out an extra $50 on top of the $3500+ that I paid for the VisionPro to deal with a design failure on Apple's part. Frankly, Apple should just have sent out the head strap to each of its early adopters.

I would like to also point out something about the wording of the headline on this post - "gets more comfortable" doesn't mean that it's comfortable to use. It's just less uncomfortable than before. I use my VisionPro maybe once every month or two simply to see if Apple has released any new immersive content. I've watched two or three movies on the VisionPro and the discomfort after two hours is just not worth it. The future potential is amazing but you have to have a really, really good reason to use it now.

  • Qualcomm, Microsoft deal could explain lack of Windows on Apple Silicon

There is a lack of Windows on ARM for Qualcomm or any manufacturer. By that I mean that you cannot buy a released version of Windows 11 or 10 from Microsoft for any ARM device. Having said that, the Microsoft Windows 11 Insider Preview for ARM, which is pre-release software, runs just fine in a Parallels VM on an Apple Silicon Mac mini. Please note that there is no guarantee that Microsoft will actually release such pre-release software but obviously they could if they wanted to. (And it runs great!)

Feels like Hulk Hogan body slamming Andre the Giant all over again! Go Apple!
LOL.  I needed that reference to start my day.  That really IS what this is like.  Apple is like "listen, BROTHER! We are real AMERICANS.  We're gonna go Applemania on YOU." And these developers are like smaller, whiny millennial versions of Andre the Giant, with about as much verbal acumen.
Don’t make fun of Andre the Giant! He might have sounded funny but he was a great guy. You wouldn’t want to risk having any of Fezzik’s friends show up on your doorstep!

Of course if you wanted to compare whinny millennials to Vizzini, that’s reasonable.

  • Lawmakers, advocacy groups, Snowden take sides in polarizing Apple encryption debate

I assume that one of the first things Tim Cook did was to ask his hardware engineers to get started moving the autowipe feature into the ARM processor silicon so that this government mandated workaround won't work with future generations of iPhones.

  • Musicians to lose Finale notation app after 35 years

When Microsoft discontinued Money in 2009 they released a Sunset edition that did not require registration. I'm still running it years later although, thankfully, I no longer have to keep a Windows machine around since Parallels does a great job running Windows 11 on my Mac. I'm surprised that the developer of Finale hasn't considered a sunset version. He wouldn't even have to host the download, there are a number of third-party download sites such as cnet.com.

  • Rising iPhone ASP in Q1 hints at healthy iPhone 6s sales

    konqerror said:
Healthy? Ha! 690.5 from 687 = increase of 1/2 of 1 percent. They're not even keeping up with inflation.
Considering that the price points for iPhone stay the same at each yearly release, yes it is very healthy and "inflation" is irrelevant. More importantly, during the call Apple pointed out that without currency fluctuations the ASP would have been $40 dollars higher.
