  • How the FCC's repeal of net neutrality could affect Apple

    Free markets need strong rules and regulations, otherwise it’s just the winner takes all.

  • Trump demands 25% tariff on any iPhone not made in the US

    Is it even legal to tariff a specific company?
    We're beyond that. Harvard, Apple, a free 747-8, deporting US citizens, using the South Lawn as a dealer lot for Tesla, forcing Microsoft to block mail access for UN employees in Europe.... and tariffs at 145% or 10% or 25% or now 50% towards Apple, China, EU, an island with penguins...

    There is no way of calculating a business case with US manufacturing being far more expensive than just 25% compared to India. Apple might promise to build factories to get a cut on the tariffs. Then plan and build for 3 years, see Trump leave or markets crash, and use the buildings for data centers.
    All over in Europe meanwhile organizations and governments are moving away from everything American: no cloud, no social media, no gmail, WhatsApp. No stocks. In the Netherlands they even have a National Get Away Day from WhatsApp! Microsoft is, as we speak, touring with their highest managers around the countries in Europe to make believe that there is no risk to our data. And on the same day a high official in the International Criminal Court could suddenly not access his email (Microsoft) anymore. This is not profitable for your great country, and is going to last for years, if not forever. Destructor in Chief…

  • iPhone 14 Pro Dynamic Island shows Apple out-thinking rivals again

    So far I have read commenters mostly saying meh, about te new stuff Apple produced. Am I the only one that is truly impressed? I like the new lineup of phones, with stuff like always on (way better than the rest), satellite connection (superior!), dynamic island (brilliant!), photography (astonishing!), speed (unbelievably!), looks (great!). I think we are getting to much used to Apple time and again delivering. So used in fact that we are underwhelmed. All this stuff is so much better than what the competition offers. Come on guys!

  • iPhone blamed for including journalist in highly classified bombing plans

    It’s shocking that the government has been without a secure, closer messaging system.

    That’s wild.

    It is annoying how apps snd suggestiins get so jacked up sometimes.

    But this kind of thing highlights the absolute need for the government and military to have a closed, secure, encrypted messaging app.
    Reading the other posts:
    - the government has secure communication methods, but weren’t used;
    - they used personal phones to message each other that also is not allowed;

    So: blaming an iPhone is childish: “it wasn’t me”.

  • Mirai-based DDoS attack highlights benefits of Apple's secure HomeKit platform

    Happy to read this. The high price one pays for Apple products, and apparently its inbuilt security, not only protects the owner but others as well.

    Very nice upgrades to storage, processor and connection speed! Now if only I had a use case for this...
    I’m a psychologist and the mini I use to make notes while I talk (and listen) to my clients. It’s unobtrusive and very handy for this purpose. My use case.

  • The new MacBook Pro: Why did Apple backtrack on everything?

    I was shocked to see the new MacBook Pro. It really looks fat. Heavy.

    Way too confusing and complicated!
    Actually it’s not. It’s an easy, understandable set of steps. And the Dortana software is so evolved you practically cannot do things wrong. My MacBook 12” which I take with me on holidays as it is very light (why Apple stopped making those is beyond my understanding), takes its time, sure, to start up and run. But after the wait, hey, I’m on holiday, it miraculously works without any problem. Doing this is soooo rewarding!

  • Rumored Mac Studio trade-in points to possible refresh during WWDC

    The Mac Studio is a design monstrosity and should never have been produced by Apple. I agree that it was probably an interim product before the Apple Silicon Mac Pro could be released. Even so, it was a terrible mistake, tarnishing the design credentials of a design-focussed brand.

    A 15" MacBook Air, if true, would be a further dilution of the brand. The MBA is a small and light laptop that fits in an envelope.

    Since Sir Jony Ive left, Apple appears to have lost its way.

    There is a momentum from previous successes but any more crap from Apple will start to impact.
    I agree that it’s ugly. With a little ribbon horizontally half way it would look like two Mac mini’s stacked on top. Much nicer. Jony would sign for it.

  • iPad mini 7 two-month review: Now I get it

    I have been using Mini’s since the beginning. As a psychologist I use them to write things while I’m working with a patient, and the mini never gets in the way. Bigger iPads, I tried them, are to big in my use case. I don’t play games, but reading a book or a paper is also nice to do. And of course, this iPad is the light weight option when traveling.
    Happy with my 7.
