  • Apple burns early iPad Pro adopters, loyal customers with Magic Keyboard incompatibility

The only people Apple “burned” are the same group that feel they are somehow entitled to anything they want because “unfair”
Someone who gives Apple $350 for an accessory is entitled? Microsoft’s Surface Pro type cover is only $129 and it works across multiple generations of Surface Pro machines. This is just bad design by Apple.

  • Apple burns early iPad Pro adopters, loyal customers with Magic Keyboard incompatibility

Seems like the person with the itch to replace a year-old iPad Pro and the money to burn for that quick of an upgrade isn’t likely to get bent out of shape over upgrading the keyboard, too. Not sure what all the angst is about.
The current 2020 magic keyboard works with the 2018 iPad Pro. My guess is a lot of current magic keyboard owners have the 2018 model. The 2020 model wasn’t much of an upgrade.

Also this new iPad Pro has the M1 chip and the ability to configure to 2TB storage and 16GB RAM plus 5G. So it’s possible someone who bought the 2020 iPad Pro will want to upgrade after they see the software updates to iPadOS at WWDC.

  • Rumor: Apple developing 'iPhone SE 2' variant with Face ID, 5.4-inch screen

Ahhh!  Now, unlike previous rumors (an iPhone 8 chassis with a state of the art processor) this makes sense.

The greatest limitation of both the current SE and the 8 is that the screen size is constrained by the bezels.   Remove the bezels and you get a modern phone.   Keep the bezels and you have an "older, old fashioned" phone.

Contrarily, for the vast majority of buyers, their phones are not constrained by the processor.  So there is room to let an older processor drive the new SE.   Or, alternatively, they could do like what they did with the original SE back in the day:
Start with a modern form factor and a (semi)modern processor and then allow them to age in place over the next several years.

As this starts to take shape, the SE2 is starting to sound like a very viable phone for a lot of people:
-- Smaller form factor (which is much needed in their line-up!)
-- Lower price (Apple could follow their newest practices and offer multiple discounts as the phone ages)
-- Modern features (or modern enough for most people)
-- Potential for an SE+ that provides a larger (LED) screen in a lower priced phone.

Nice going Apple!   That could fill in some holes that will make a lot of people happy over the next several years!

But, as somebody asked previously:   What about 5G?  Currently that is not an issue, but over the life of any phone purchased in 2020 it will be.
One answer is to do what they've been doing in the Mac Lines and provide incremental improvements (such as 5G) as available and needed without creating a whole new model and a lot of hoopla...
I don’t see an entry level iPhone having Face ID.  Seems to me this is all about reusing design/parts and just updating the internals. The 8 definitely looks outdated but some people might not care if they prefer Touch ID,
  • Apple AI researchers gagged no more, now allowed to publish and confer with colleagues

Well done, great move in the right direction! But thanks to Apple's old managers, it is stuck in the old style management, and companies like Google and Microsoft are quickly innovating modern working environments and attracting better talent. Just look how fast Microsoft has caught up with Apple. Apple professionals are praising the Surface Studio and crapping on the new MBP.
How many of these so-called "Apple professionals" actually put an order in for a Surface Studio? Seems to me it's catered to a nice market of graphic designers. If you're not a graphic designer why would you want a Surface Studio?

Once again Apple paving the road for all the copycats to ride through.

Don't be surprised that in 15 years all cars look the same.
Really? What exactly are they copying as Apple has nothing on the market. If people think Apple is just going to swoop in here like they did with iPod and iPhone and show everyone how it's done I think they're in for a rude awakening.

Wish Apple would have purchased this instead of Beats.
Why? Do they have a streaming service too? No? Okay, how about expertise in popular music and a group of people who can strike exclusive deals. No?

    Right.

As much as you wish otherwise, Beats was a good buy.
Apple gave us iTunes. You're telling me they couldn't deliver a streaming music service without spending $3 billion on Beats? Apple is also making a play for the connected car. Outside of CarPlay they have very little foothold in the connected car space. That's why I think it would have been a smarter buy.
  • Review roundup: iPhone 7 is the greatest iPhone yet, but lack of the headphone jack is annoying

Shame they only got 5 days with the phone. A lot of these reviews feel rushed almost like they were reviewed because they had to be and they have more of a let's get this over with feel. It's so easy to tell which reviewers are plain sick of doing this and which ones still enjoy it.

I'm sure Apple is really bummed that they weren't able to ship all the camera features for the Plus model on day 1. Gruber called the Plus camera update meh. That's not what Schiller wants to hear.

    Why. Is. apple. So. slow.

    get with it already Apple.

Stop trying to low ball content providers. Just close the deals already. Then once you have 20 million subscribers then you can negotiate lower prices.

I'm getting sick of Tim Cook's slow action.

Apple is keep getting left behind because of Cook's inability to act:

    1. Took forever to bring out large phones
    2. Took forever to make an AppleTV with Apps
    3. Taking forever to make a home hub device
    4. Taking forever to close a LiveTV package and a streaming package
We don't normally agree but I agree with everything here. I see some apologists on Twitter often use the Apple isn't first but is best line which I think is bunk.

iPhone 6 was a great phone but I don't think it blew every other phone out of the water. There are phones on the market today with the same screen size (or bigger) but in a smaller overall body because they don't need large bezels to accomodate a physical home button. Can Apple claim they waited to make a bigger phone until they could do it best? Not if they're honest. I use my Apple Watch every day and like it a lot. But is it really that much better than all the other wearables out there? It might be selling the most because of brand recognition and customer loyalty but is it really some blow away breakthrough device? Same with Apple TV. It seems like we wait a long time for stuff and then what's announced is a bit underwhelming.

I hope we get a really great Mac event that does blow everyone away. Ben Bajarin says his research data shows that premium Windows machines are taking share from the Mac. And Microsoft has been pushing them hard. I see Windows 10 PC commercials on TV all the time. I can't remember the last time I saw a Mac commercial on TV.  I hope we see killer new Macs and a big holiday ad campaign to go with it.
