  • OpenCore and Hackintosh are sadly dead after Apple ends Intel Mac support

Yay! Next year they can scrape out all that old Intel cruft from the OS. I wonder what that all entails. 🤔

  • Initial M4 MacBook Air benchmark reveals same GPU power as M4 iPad Pro

Please don’t call it a budget portable Mac. 😂

The MacBook Air is an amazing laptop and most people don’t need a MacBook Pro so it’s not really a sacrificing something, low budget option. I’m still absolutely loving my M2 MacBook Air so I still don’t think a chip refresh is going to push me to upgrade. iMac-like colors and a C1 and I’ll pull out my credit card! 🤩

  • New M4 MacBook Air is great, but MacBook Pro still commands Apple's laptop business

Is the chart Mac sales as in money or unity numbers? I’m more likely to believe the former. That would only mean that MBP sales bring in more money with their higher price tags.

As a light iOS and web developer I used to buy 15” MacBook Pros as my personal machines but in the Apple Silicon era I owned an M2 MacBook Air and as of last week an M4 MacBook Air. I don’t use HDMI or fancy camera cards. The screen is plenty nice. I couldn’t justify the extra money for a heavy, chunky MacBook Pro and neither should most people unless they have a specific workflow or personal need.

We shall see if the 2026 MacBook Pro really goes on a diet, but I have concerns that that might not be in the best interest of the pro users.

  • Users upset by Evernote price hikes & two-device limit for free Basic customers

Users are greedy if they use a free service forever and take offense to restrictions when the company can't afford to keep up. I guess if you really value something you should be ok to budget it in.

The buy once model worked great for a single app that does something on your device. Sadly, people drove down acceptable app prices so low that it's hard to make a living by trying to make a great, focused app and keep it updated.

Subscriptions should be acceptable to for services that rely on the cloud and syncing. Seems to me that advertising as a suitable revenue stream is dying? Advertisements turn people off anyway.

This is why I as a developer, starting development of a new product/service, don't even want to bother offering a free tier. It's really hard to switch people from free to paid. And all the time trying you're draining down your bank accounts and then eventually the paying customers get the price hike and if they can't swallow the change you're screwed. Developing software isn't cheap and it isn't easy.

  • MacBook with A18 Pro first appeared in macOS 15 code

I just don’t see the point. M-series chips basically use the same cores but with features attuned to desktop computers. Maybe average users don’t care but I wouldn’t buy a MacBook with an A-series chip. That’s an iPad. Would they not be better having a “lite” M5 chip?
