  • Facebook denies report claiming Zuckerberg ordered execs to go Android-only

I go out of my way now to avoid anything to do with Facebook, same as I do for Google. The only IT company I can trust with my personal data is Apple.

    Edit: typo

  • Apple releases HomePod software update 14.2.1

Will we see an update that provides the original HomePods with the Thread feature found on the HomePod mini? I understand that it can be enabled via software, if Apple is so inclined.

See equality72521's response below for what the Thread feature is about? It is found on the HomePod mini.
I’ve had LIFX globes (WiFi) for a while. There is always a delay (a second or more) and can often become unresponsive.

I bought some nanoleaf lights and strips (BTLE and Thread) in anticipation of my coming HomePod mini.

Still got delays of a second or more (even up to 5).

Having them switch over to thread with the HomePod mini is night and day. Their response is near instantaneous now. Just need all other HomeKit gear to get on board with thread.

  • iOS 18 gives iPhone 15 more charging limit tiers to protect the battery

My 14ProMax went 15 months before dropping to 99% capacity.

Because it misses out on the 80% charge limiter feature of the 15Pro, I made a Siri Shortcut that turns off the smart outlet it’s charger is connected to when it reaches 80% charged. I wake up with my phone at 80% every morning

  • iPhone 16e teardown reveals it's as easily repaired as the iPhone 16

By removing the mechanically-moving Home button, which can break through repeated presses over time, this removes one more headache for repairers.

It hadn’t been a moving button for years!
Many years. I had an iPhone 7+ that had a pressure sensitive home button with haptic feedback to feel like a clicking button. Just like the Magic Trackpad.
