  • Breaking down Apple's AirPods Pro: 8 features that set them apart

I've beat up on AirPods in the past but I have to say these are pretty solid. They feel much more secure in my ears and I don't think the active noise canceling has been reviewed fairly in some of the videos I seen. I had them on in my office, which has an open floor plan, and I didn't hear a thing going on around me - with my head down facing the screen I couldn't even tell I had 20 people around me talking and doing their thing.

  • Editorial: Arguing over iPhone 'Right to Repair' is good, but a solid middle-ground is nee...

I've said it before and I'll say it again - there is no justifiable reason Apple can give for charging $600 on a 32gb memory upgrade and nearly $1000 for a 64gb upgrade. That's just out of control. The Mac Mini $1000 base but goes up to $1600 for maxed out memory...a 60% increase in cost when for it could be done under for under $200 by a 3rd party.

  • Apple compares iOS updates to kitchen renovations in motion to dismiss iPhone slowdown law...

"homeowners who have let a building contractor into their homes to upgrade their kitchens, thus giving permission for the contractor to demolish and change parts of the houses." - okay, but the intent is that that upgrade will improve the kitchen on how it looks and functions...I've had my renovations done on my home and in each instance the contractors have noted that "if we do X, then this is what happens to Y, do you still want to do X". . . I've never had a contractor make the executive decision that in order to bring hot water more efficiently to the kitchen they'll just reduce the flow of it to other parts of the house and I'll just have to live with not having a hot shower...Apple essentially made that executive decision and felt like they didn't need to inform user of what they would be giving up in order to have improved battery performance or that without the update and reduced performance there would be safety issue with the battery...it wasn't an unforeseen side effect, Apple knew what they were doing and consciously decided against transparency to the end user. Users have free will and should decide if they want to stay with Apple knowing where they stand as customers and the lack of transparency

  • Ricky Gervais roasts Apple as Golden Globes snub 'The Morning Show'

Ricky Gervais is showing his ignorance.

In other news, let see a show of hands for the most ridiculous use of a word in the English language.   “Woke.”   What an unimaginative and poorly thought up way of expressing oneself.
his use of "woke" was more mocking the word than trying to apply it intelligently.

  • Amazon is watching and reviewing Cloud Cam security footage

    Surprised!!

Apple please hurry up and take Home seriously! I'm at the point of thinking Apple needs to acquire some home security companies and make these spyware devices irrelevant. Like Siri, iPhone and podcasts, this whole industry was Apple's idea and they're laying back allowing everyone in.

And cry me a river about the Siri thing. All information was anonymous and untraceable. Apple could release these recordings to the public and it would do diddly-squat!
Unlike spyware companies like Facebook and Google who know who your children are, where you live and what you purchase.
Why do you think Apple will be any different outside of the fact that in light of this Apple may more explicitly tell you that humans will periodically review footage to ensure the AI engine is correctly identifying what it it was programmed to identify? The human involvement won't change.

  • Long term review: Apple's AirPods are still the best wireless headphones around

okay, so they are: - expensive but not really expensive when you consider having to replace cheaper ones multiple times - built in sensors are attractive because they're intuitive to how people live their lives while using them - the design brings a "cool" factor - battery life is great and they'll last for even the most hardcore users ....that's all great but what about sound quality? the review covers everything but the sound quality. I've not met a single person who owns this that have said "AirPods are one of the best headphones I've ever owned, the sound is sick" - most have said that it's relatively no better than the standard earbuds that Apple gives you when you buy an iPhone or that it's just okay. I don't understand why anyone would write a review of headphones/earpods that doesn't include anything around sound quality. The whole review could be summed up with "There's no better set of headphones on the market that can deliver mediocre sound while looking so stylish"

  • Apple's AirPods fail to earn Consumer Reports recommendation, beaten by Samsung's Galaxy B...

First, it wasn’t until Apple showed the way.  Par for the course on that one.

Second, sound quality is subjective, but okay, Samsung makes good hardware.

Third, if they’re saying the Samsung product serves the Android market better and AirPods serve the iOS market better, what’s the point?
Or was it Samsung that showed the way with gear icon X, wireless buds and a charging case. Came out before the first gen AirPods.

Apple did it first of course though.
Incorrect. Both products were released in December, 2016. Dunno date of iconX but AP came out December 13.

    15 July 2016
Samsung launched the first-generation Gear IconX on 15 July 2016.

Right so Apple quick came up with the Airpods design and tech, then mass produced them in 5 months after seeing Samsung's product? Riiiigghht...

You missed the point - a claim was made the the Airpods came out first and implied that Samsung copied Apple which so it was corrected- please un-bunch your fanboy panties, thanks.

  • Google buying FitBit for $2.1 billion to advance fight against Apple Watch

    wood1208 said:
If past is any indication! "Google is selling Motorola, the iconic handset maker it bought for $12.5 billion in May of 2012, to Chinese PC maker Lenovo for $2.91 billion". Fitbit should have merged with Garmin's wearables division.
From Google "I think the Motorola transaction has been a success for us. Financially, we bought the asset for $12.5 billion. It had $3 billion in cash; we were able to sell the Home division for $2.5 billion; we ended selling the handset division for $3 billion. There were some other tax assets as well. When you work through the math, you realize we spent between $2.5 billion and $3.5 billion for the patent assets." the numbers appear to make sense - Google bought Motorola strictly for the patents and when compared to the Nortel patent auction they didn't really over pay, they actually got a deal. Additionally, with Lenovo taking over the handsets Google still benefits off the production of Android devices without the headache of production (only left to focus on the Pixel which admitted the 4 is actually pretty much garbage even by Android user standards). I would've rather Apple bought Fitbit for the platform - Apple's hardware + Fitbit's fitness platform would've decimated the wearable market.

  • Apple seen posting record $90 billion holiday quarter driven by Services & iPhone 11 deman...

I hope Apple posts a $90 billion holiday quarter.

Won’t affect me as I don’t own any Apple stock. But it will be hilarious seeing all the rage from the haters whose happiness depends on Apple failing.
Like those Apple fanboys to pray on the failure of anyone remotely seen as a competitor - maybe it's a case of you give what you get?

  • Tested: Using the iPhone XS Smart Battery Case on the iPhone X

I wonder how many Apple Smart Battery Cases’s are sold.  The iPhone already has fantastic battery life, but if you need more battery life, other brands go for between $20 - $40 on Amazon.

While the Apple case might be superior quality (debatable) it’s less attractive than the competition.  Also, most support XS and X without limitations...
not for someone who uses CarPlay on a daily bases...none of the other cases have the lightning port and those that do don't carry the ability for CarPlay... not to mention the risk in using a 3rd party non-certified device
