Sorry, Netflix support isn't coming to the Apple TV app
It’s striking that the biggest apps (YouTube, Prime Video, Netflix, Max) are all among the worst, most poorly implemented video players out there. YT and Prime are simply god awful, ignoring native UX paradigms and using their crap non-native interfaces. Max has regressed and now doesn’t even support “what did he say?”, or rewind captions; hell, even edge-click to rewind is non-native there now, requiring two clicks to activate instead of one, and other weird anomalies and departures from the native player.
The bigger the company, the more their app sucks, seems to be the rule. -
Why Apple's smart home speaker dreams are still falling short
hodar said:I don't know how many times Siri has started playing music (that I neither know, or like) and I have to ask it to stop. All I wanted was a decent sounding speaker to play my TV streaming AppleTV through - that was "better" than the stock speakers in the TV. The thing is, it doesn't sound as good as the cheap speakers in the TV, despite having more than adequate processing power, "better" drivers, and what should be ample power.
It now is the ONLY Apple product that sits on the shelf - unused. The TV built-in speakers sound better, play louder in the downstairs room (my hearing isn't what it used to be). And for the money, I can get a pretty decent soundbar with Sub at Costco - especially with Black Friday just around the corner.
I WANTED to love the HomePod, at $300 it should rival or beat anything in it's price range; it's more of an inconvenience than of practical use. I wish that wasn't the case.
I will say that there is a volume difference when you double up with a HP pair -- two sound much louder than one. -
Apple stuck the Mac mini power button on the bottom
DAalseth said:Asinine. This is absolutely the WORST place you could possibly put the power button on a DESKTOP computer.bloggerblog said:Inconvenient from a traditional mindset, but nowadays a power button doesn't get much use..
It’s raised so a finger can slip under.
But the intended use case is not to power down a Mac every day, you put it to sleep then wake from sleep. Don’t even remember the last time I did otherwise.

Craig Federighi says macOS would ruin what makes the iPad special
mikethemartian said:mfryd said:However, this is not a reason to prohibit running Mac OSX on an iPad. Users should have a choice as to which OS they run.I have nothing against the iPad OS. It's a great solution for many (but not all) users. Why not allow users to choose which OS they are running?
The iPad OS can be the default, but please allow power users to install OSX. iPad apps already work inside of Mac OSX, so no functionality is lost.
An iPad with an M4 processor, 16GB RAM, 2TB SSD, Thunderbolt 3, and a Magic Keyboard Folio (Keyboard and trackpad) would make a damn fine portable Mac. -
Inside Apple TV 4K -- the best addition to your TV set
Definitely the best box in the biz. We have four and use it daily. Very rarely use anything else…OTA football once in a while, or the rare optical disc. The UI is great, performance/lag great, and I even enjoy the remote. The only trouble operating is with poorly engineered apps that choose their own garbage UX rather than the native media playback controls, or don’t support captions properly, siri, etc — Max, Amazon, YouTube, they all suck. Normal apps are great.

Apple wants total control over distributing films like 'F1'
MassiveAttack said:Yawn.. While other Mag 6 companies promote and attract investors with AI-driven products, Apple comes up with dead Hollywood which has been dead since Netflix.Tim Cook rather hangs out with Hollywood celebrities while Jensen Huang meets politicians of all nations to promote Nvidia´s future.
Doesn´t Apple have anything better to do except promoting a movie, which pops up in my wallet?

Oppo Find N5 foldable phone review: Apple's now on notice
AppleZulu said:That's a great review, but it failed to answer the biggest question: What is the use for this, beyond, "hey look, it folds"? Despite how nifty that might be, folding phones are apparently only 3% of the Chinese market, which, according to others here, is the only place that has the good ones. Also, while the review speaks to the thinness of this device as well as its water resistance, it doesn't address durability. Other reviews out there suggest it's fairly delicate. So why would Apple bother to make and sell one of these? FOMO doesn't seem justified, and would not be consistent with Apple's past behavior. A new phone model that's the most expensive and also much more prone to warranty claims? Why would Apple risk its customer satisfaction reputation just to provide a very expensive novelty?
