  • Mac is less popular among Apple customers than iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch

Between my wife and I, we have 2 iPhones, 2 watches, 2 Airpod Pros, an Apple TV 4k, and I have 2 Homepod Minis in my office.  The only thing we don't have are Macs and that is simply because they are, to us, too expensive for what you get.  My Dell PC with the same performance and specs as a Macbook Pro is less than 1/2 the cost.  I simply cannot justify the extra money for the same performance.  I have used a Macbook Pro in the past when supplied by my company, and loved it.  If Apple would just come down on their pricing for the Macbook Pro, we'd jump in a heartbeat.
I call BS on that.  What's the Dell display specs vs. Apple equivalent - resolution, PPI, color gamut, brightness, etc.?  What's the battery life on the Dell vs. MacBook (Air/Pro)? What's the storage speed comparison?  Weight?

I justified a MacBook Pro at my employer by custom spec'ing a Dell, with as close as possible specs as the MacBook Pro.  I couldn't get battery or display on the Dell to be as good as the MacBook Pro, and the two systems were within $100 of each other.

  • Qualcomm says its Apple Silicon rival chips will be in PCs by late 2023

Now is the time for Apple to sell its M Series chips to PC vendors. Get a foothold before the competition does.
    WHAT?!?!?!?!?

What makes you think there's 40%+ margin on M Series CPUs?  What makes you think Microsoft would support Windows on M Series CPUs (they haven't on the Mac yet...)?

Apple has never been, and never will be a component vendor, especially for competitors.  Apple pays someone else to make Apple designed components for Apple products.

    PERIOD.

  • Withings BeamO is a 4-in-1 checkup device that does more than take your temperature

Does the hardware or software require an online account (like all other Withings products)?

    If so, hell no.

My health data is none of their business.

Appleinsider should research & detail this requirement for ANY product they review.

  • HomePod of the future may only answer Siri queries if you look at it

    mike1 said:
I’m sure he would be livid over this HomePod, iPhone, watch Siri differentiation issue. What really sucks that if I’m in a room with my  HomePod, phone and watch that I do not know where Siri will come from, especially when it’s a personal request and the HomePod responds with I can’t do that. Steve Jobs is probably rolling over in his grave
With my wife and I each having iPhones, iPads and my Watch, as well as a house full of HomePods, I found the most reliable solution was to disable Hey Siri on all the devices except the HomePods. For my needs, there is no benefit to having the phones or Watch respond to Hey Siri. If I am not at home, the phone is within arm's reach and the Watch is on my wrist, so I can easily push the buttons to engage Siri when needed.

Maybe I’ll try that idea, but I still wish that Apple could figure out a way for the different devices to somehow communicate with each other and delegate the task to just one device that is closest to the command issuer. I’m guessing that ability will be forthcoming with the advancement of AI.
This is a home infrastructure issue (WiFi).

We have 13 home pods.  My wife & I each have an iPhone, Apple Watch & iPad.  Always only one device answers.  Unless the iPhone or iPad are unlocked and in use, a home pod answers.  If you are actively using an iPhone or iPad, they will take priority and only one will answer.  This works by all the devices talking on the same reliable WiFi network. Multiple devices hear the "Hey Siri!, and they decide which will answer & inform the others to not answer.

You need to troubleshoot your home infrastructure.  This is a problem that Apple solved from the beginning.

Without the App Store, these developers will be selling their apps on USB sticks in front of Costco?

These developed are just ungrateful losers
i am a developer and I am  not a loser.   If Apple would allow, I would offer my customers the option to download my iOS apps from the secured cloud server I've set up for my other apps.  You are not only disrespectful, you should try to think before making silly remarks
I'm not hostile to your comment, I'm just asking if you are talking about free iOS apps or if you want to be selling apps for iOS from your own server and you want to directly charge users some money for those apps, and presumably not giving Apple any compensation for the things it provides, like all the free CloudKit services that may be compiled into your apps, for starters. If so, that wouldn't seem fair at all.
My most popular app is an e-voting app for general assemblies of large organizations.  The voting app (iOS, Android, Web) is free of charge.  The management of the system is a separate and paid Web application that integrates with the IT system of the organization. In terms of complexity and development, the client voting app represents only around 20% of the effort.

The Apple revenue is limited to the iOS developer license ($99 a year) and the infrastructure I need to develop and test the iOS app (3 Macbooks Pro, 2 iPads, 5 iPhones).  The voting app started as a Web app, and I only made an iOS and Android version of the app on request of a large customer.   Currenty 10% of the votes are made by the iOS app, 15% by the Android app and 75% by the Web app.    I don't use Cloudkit, because it is not cross platform, which is a hard requirement for my app.

In the past  I developed 6 iOS apps where I paid Apple the 30% (it was still 30%):  4 were loss making and 2 were about break even (for me, not for Apple).
So what's your problem with the current iOS/iPadOS environment or the App Store policies?

Your current app is free - you're freeloading off of Apple.  You are certainly using their IP and paying nothing for it.

It's not Apple's fault that 4/6 of your previous paid for apps were money losers - you refused to set the price to allow them to be profitable.  And if you are going to say that pricing them higher would price them out of the market, then you made a mistake by developing them.  It's not Apple's problem that you did that.

  • Here are all the devices getting Matter support

or it just records directly to iCloud like other cameras?
Name a single camera that records to Apple's iCloud. All the cameras that I found record to proprietary clouds, mostly in China.
Every HomeKit Secure Video camera records to iCloud.  I personally have 2 x models of Eufy cameras that support HSV.  I did not user their app & do not need to.  They are configured for HomeKit Secure Video only.  I also know they do not record anywhere except to HomeKit - they are blocked/monitored at my firewall (same for all my other cameras).  HSV records through the "active" HomeKit hub (HomePod original, Apple TV, iPad, etc.).  The HomeKit hub manages encrypting the video & sending it up to iCloud.

You can still factory reset a HomePod or HomePod mini by plugging it into the USB port on a Mac
Really?  I have a dozen of the OG HomePods and two of the 2nd gen - where do you plug in the USB cable (they do not have a USB port????

Component availability, production capacity availability, etc.  COVID was happening...

Yeah the 2018 manufacture date of HomePods delivered in 2021 really supports that theory too. I know, maybe they couldn't get components so they had to use their backup supply from 2018? Looking forward to how you twist that one.
You really need to re-read what I wrote.  I didn't twist anything.  I make no statements of fact - only possibilities.

You're claiming fact without any proof - only speculation & opinion..
And yet I completely refuted your "possibilities". As I said, it is well known that Apple has an excellent supply chain. But since this is apparently only my "opinion" and not the truth, you must believe that they in fact have a crap supply chain and want product sat around in warehouses for years.
You provided no proof against my possibilities.  You continue to state your opinion as fact, which it is not.

In response to your reply, I made no comments/statements about Apple's supply chain.  Not even an inference.

Please read my replies again, without the attitude or emotions.

It is possible that your opinions prevents you from seeing other possibilities.

I don't find a 2FA option in Settings -> Passwords, or in Keychain.  Where can I add my token/seed or create new 2FA?
    In Settings->Passwords:
After you save a new password/account, you will have a place to set up a 'Verification Code' under Account Options using the QR code or setup key.
Thanks - I've never noticed that button!

For some reason the option to use "key/seed" is grayed out for me:

Most of those Samsung chargers will eventually be used to power an iOS device.
    Would you trust it?  :*
Would you trust the Samsung OLED displays, NAND flash, and DRAM chips being used in the new iPhones?
Yes - they are made to Apple's specifications, when included in an iPhone.
