Apple, Travis Scott, others sued for $2B by attendees injured at Astroworld
viclauyyc said:Why sue Apple except for money grab?Apple was streaming the concert online, the whole idea is so people don’t need to go to the concert. Why not sue the bus company because they give people ride to the concert. Or sue Coca-cola as they provide drink?
The tricky bit will be to show that Apple (along with the promoter, artist, venue, etc.) is liable, since Apple was streaming the event and could conceivably have paused it at any time for "technical difficulties."
One question they might ask is whether Apple acted negligently in continuing the stream (presumably for profit reasons) while ignoring the unfolding emergency, or whether Apple profited from streaming a video of people being injured, while doing nothing to help. Or whether Apple interfered with or blocked attempts to stop the event. -
Qualcomm, Microsoft deal could explain lack of Windows on Apple Silicon

As I understand it, California law voids non-compete clauses (which Apple and many other companies attempt to use regardless of enforceability) in employment contracts. Anti-poaching arrangements are also illegal. -
Steve Jobs' original Macintosh demo site is now rubble
In addition to its historical significance, it seems like it was not just the only large public theater/auditorium on the De Anza College campus but one of the few (maybe the only one?) in Cupertino, so it is a loss for Apple, the city and the region. At least it is being replaced by a creative arts building for the college, though presumably with a much smaller theater/auditorium space. It's also a shame that Apple doesn't seem to do large, in-person public events anymore.
Apple doesn't seem to be a great steward of its historical legacy. I believe Steve Jobs shut down Apple's own history museum and the collection was given to Stanford, where it is not on display (though Stanford does have some interesting historical exhibits.) (Probably Jobs was more interested in the future than the past - a past where he had been sidelined before leaving the company; he also closed Apple's library and fired the staff, infamously claiming that Apple engineers should already know everything in it.) The Computer History Museum probably has some Apple artifacts and coverage, and the Apple's visitor center does have some information about the company, but it's too bad that there isn't an Apple-focused museum near the mother ship, cooperating with the company for preservation of history and artifacts as well as scholarship and education. -

Apple should not be injecting ads in its Apple Music playlists
Absolutely terrible.
They also shouldn't abuse the OS by inserting advertisements in it (e.g. in the Settings app) and they should not abuse notifications for sending advertisements for Apple subscription services.
Ads in search in the app store are also garbage, because you search for an app by its exact title and it ends up below the fold and instead you get an ad for some other app unless the original developer paid protection money to Apple.
The drive for ever greater revenue from subscription services is harming the user experience. -

Keychron Q3 HE review: An excellent compact mechanical keyboard
I wanted to like my Keychron keyboard but it was just painful to type on. I don't know whether it was the Gateron red switches (though I usually prefer linear and have tried them on other keyboards?), or something related to the key shape or key pitch, but overall it felt awkward and seemed to hurt my hands. The keys and spacebar were also unpleasantly loud and hollow sounding. It's nice looking, but it turned me off on Keychron in general. Hopefully the Q3 HE is much better with its Gateron magnetic switches, but for that price you could get a Topre keyboard.
I wish Apple would get back into the business of making premium "mechanical" keyboards. -
