So either Apple is going to abandon the $2k price point for the desktop market (unlikely) or the next Mac Pro is going to fill in the $2k price point  (laughably unlikely).
This is a bad take.  Look for the Mac Pro to be extremely differentiated and extremely pricey.

My partner's iphone 6s is still in daily operation because the headphone jack IS a killer feature.

I have never owned a pair if lightning-connected headphones.  I have however owned quite a number of lightning to headphone jack dongles of various qualities and price points.

Maybe the problem is not that Apple is going to finally bring RCS to the iPhone in 2024.  Maybe the problem is that only Apple can bring RCS to the iPhone platform, instead of letting whatever app users choose provide RCS functionality on the iPhone platform, whether or not Apple thinks RCS is ready.

Could be, and that would be a better point -- had the DoJ actually said that.

Don't they?  Item #89 of the DoJ's complaint reads "Apple has not [added support for RCS] yet, and regardless it would not cure Apple's efforts to undermine third-party messaging apps because third-party messaging apps will still be prohibited from incorporating RCS just as they are prohibited from incorporating SMS."

The death of target display mode, combined with Apple's choice to use high-end panels in all their displays, means there is no way a 27" imac makes sense at any plausible price point.  A Mac Mini with external monitor just makes more sense.

Who would want to own an expensive Mac Server when AWS Graviton is *right there*?  Apple's product is distinguished as a user device, and that's where they can justify a price premium.

The hockey-puck mouse design was indeed a disaster.  But they practically gave them away.  The Apple Magic Mouse is $80 -- and at that price you don't have to accept compromises Apple is offering.

As an iphone 12 user, the clumsy, giant form factor of the 16e combined with lack of magsafe makes the 16e extremely uncompelling.  It's not even cheap.  Zero chance this is my next smartphone.

What's more likely is that Apple bought the hardware outright from the company, and used it within its own data centers.

Is there any source for this claim?  Wall street has been asking Google to sell TPU hardware basically forever but as far as anyone knows it's never happened.

As a 12 mini user... based on the specs of the 16 proposed here, a used 13 mini is absolutely the upgrade for me.
