  • Cydia, the 'original iPhone App Store' is suing Apple over antitrust claims

Lawyers who take cases like this should be named and shamed.

Never got a response when I contacted Cydia to have my apps - which had been pirated - removed from their site.

  • Dubious supply chain report claims 'Apple Car' will arrive in September 2021

Very unlikely. Many regulatory hurdles - crash test certifications, etc - must be met before the cars could be licensed for road use. Apple’s attempts to pass these would have certainly leaked by now. Not to mention test cars spotted on roads.

  • Apple engineers partner with Cloudflare to improve internet privacy

Interesting since last week 1.1.1.1 stopped working on many people’s iPhones. Reviews in the App Store show many recent 1 star reviews, various iPhone models, on iOS 14.

  • EU proposes sweeping regulations on Big Tech, hefty fines for noncompliance

You were doing good until you included ‘Apple needs to be broken up.’ Why? Too successful?  EU jealousy? Many buy Apple products because of the security. By not having the hardware, OS, and content groups under 1 leadership, working together to make sure security is a priority, you risk that.

The devil is in the details. What the actual regulations will be is yet to be seen. It’s a slippery slope of further government regulation of private industry. If there are going to be new regulations, I would like to see regulations that require the big tech companies to produce a concise and simple to understand statement of how customer data is used, sold, or shared. As well is simplified terms of service that don’t require a law degree to interpret. The fundamental issue that is forcing the EU to create these regulations is the monopolistic behavior of the tech giants. Their market power allows them to create one-sided policies and strategies that favor the company - for which they can’t be blamed as that is the natural tendency of a monopoly. Ultimately Google and Facebook need to be broken up. Possibly Apple too. Twitter needs some sort of shake up that gets them out of the content control role they’ve grown in to.

  • iPhone 12 claims US sales crown, while iPhone 12 mini stumbles

So much for theory that there is a large market for small phones. Just because a few squawkers on tech blogs said there was doesn’t mean there is. Tech blogs are about as far away from reality as it gets.

Agree. Fine if you only text, talk, email. But anyone who watches videos, surfs Safari, plays games,  etc - welcomes the larger screen. And as a Dev, more screen means more room for objects (w/o forcing the user to have to scroll).

  • Apple loses iOS copyright claim in suit against security firm Corellium

Hard to believe the Apple lawyers would make such silly, hysterical claims that gave the judge an easy reason to rule against. You’d think there would be peer review and that ‘dangerous’ statement would have been taken out. By that logic Apple should bet every iPhone buyer to make sure they’re not ‘dangerous’.

I still think Apple will win eventually- it’s their OS and terms and conditions certain protect them against unauthorized use of iOS.

  • After mocking Apple, Xiaomi also omits charger from upcoming Mi 11 flagship

Copy/Paste country doing what Copy/Paste country does.

As the saying goes: ‘if anyone had an original idea in China it would die of loneliness.’  All this talk of China passing the US is a joke; I don’t care if they put 50 million in AI; they just can’t innovate.

  • Workers riot at Wistron iPhone plant in India over shorted pay

Even in white collar; know many working at app/programming companies where owners either start missing payments (or making arbitrary reductions) or just shut down.

India, a lot of potential - but as long as Corruption is commonplace, will be limited.

This isn’t uncommon in India. One of my former employers had this happen at their Pune factory a few years back. Destroyed equipment and glass throughout the building and actively sought out managers the to beat up.
