  • EU to settle Apple Pay NFC probe after Apple's concessions

Apple should just. let it crash and burn.

And them make a detailed video campaign about how the EU is taking away users freedom to choose a platform that is closed and secure.
I agree!! Apple has always been great at propaganda!

  • Judge questions Apple's commitment to App Store payment alternatives

Why does Apple has to have an alternative App Store payment process? When I go to any store, I pay the store. I don't pay the manufacturer of an individual product. I just don't understand why people can't see this. It's Apple's product so you pay Apple.
Exactly. And grocery stores charge shelving fees based on placement. Yet I haven’t seen the government go after that.
The problem with this analogy is that you can go across the street to another grocery store. You have choices. With Apple, you just have their store and that's it.

  • Security flaws in Microsoft Mac apps could let attackers spy on users

Microsoft considers this low risk, because, let's be honest, no serious company is going to run their business on macs.

The difference is you can go and buy a game from another store (Game Stop, etc.) and Microsoft doesn't get the 30% commission.
Of course they do, Microsoft gets a cut of every copy of a game sold anywhere whether it's a physical or digital copy.
You are correct. It seems that Microsoft does take a 15% cut on third-party games sold physically. It still doesn't make it right though.

I'm not against Apple (or Microsoft or any other company) charging fees, but it needs to be reasonable. Charging fees for sales that are not going through your channel seems excessive, and typically the users are the ones who ends up paying for those fees through higher prices. I'm surprised that you seem to support this. The more fees that Apple charges, the more you pay for your apps/games. Developers will eat some of the fees, but they will pass on most of these excessive fees on to you.

  • Japan could be next to force third-party app stores on Apple

So… lots of countries/regions all coming to the same conclusion about Apple's App Store.

    The opinionati on AppleInsider:

    a) EU investigates: Protectionism to cover the fact that they are technologically incompetent! Corruption!

    b) US DOJ investigates: Political activism!

    c) Japan investigates: Revenge for "sliding down" in the tech industry

    d) Korea investigates: Corrupt protectionism (also, as seen here: Revenge for "sliding down" in the tech industry — except Samsung is constantly one of the top 2 smartphone manufacturers globally)

I look forward to many more creative explanations that blame anything but Apple.
That's why I come here. It's always interesting to see what they come up with next.

I had someone on here tell me that they're pissed because they'll be given a choice. Go figure.

  • 'Fortnite' antisteering mandate punishment 'fundamentally unfair' says Apple

    Apple did nothing wrong.

Epic created a gigantic case just to get the courts to settle for something smaller. Unfortunately it worked.

And now apple is supposed to give free access to competitors.

Apple has the right to charge whatever they want. If they want to charge a developer 99% for being listed on the store, they can do thst.

But they’d lose partners. That’s how the free market works.

27% is fair. And if they want to go to 20%, that’s fair too.

But to try to force them to take nothing? That’s criminal.
"Apple has a right to charge whatever they want." Really. You do understand that your the one who is paying at the end, correct. Don't you want competition on the iPhone? Or are you just happy with Apple just charging "whatever they want".

This is just like tariffs. 😒

    Don’t be evil, Apple.

As for us users, take the effort to buy your subscriptions outside the app where possible and you’ll likely pay less.  A small bit of effort but it goes a long way when you add up the savings over time.
Fantastic idea… and then you can use all that money saved to continue paying for the subscription after the point you want to cancel it as there is no easy way to unsubscribe. Or their weak card processing system gets hacked and you lose all your financial details.
You and I agree, but many people (e.g., "s.metcalf") want to force business models on us that we don't want to deal with. If I wanted to deal with Google's model, I would buy phones that run Google software. I want the freedom to be able to choose Apple's model. If Apple is forced to follow Google's horrible model, there would be little reason for me to buy from Apple.
Stop drinking the Kool-Aid. No one is forcing you to use Google's model. The who point of this is to give Apple users a choice on where to spend when using an iPhone. If you still want to be overcharged, you can still buy from the Apple Store. You'll always have that choice.
