  • There's not a big rush to buy the iPhone 16e yet

    Oh, please!
Why would anyone expect this model to sell out or be in short supply on opening day?!

It was released outside of the usual September hype and its media coverage.
It is not targeted to power users or enthusiasts who will want to upgrade and order on day 1.
I would bet the vast majority of customers for this model don't yet know about it or will never know about it until they need/want to buy a new phone for whatever reason. The typical SE customer is not eagerly awaiting the release date of a new phone.
I was “eagerly waiting” for a new SE to replace a pair of 2nd generation SEs (2020).  I was ready to make a day one purchase.   Sadly, the 16e isn’t it.   So I bought a pair of refurbished iPhone 13 minis on Amazon instead for less than the rumored price of a 4th generation SE.   Too bad for Apple.   Good for me.   I hope their internal data shows millions of others doing the same.   FYI, it was quite interesting to see the availability of refurbished iPhone 13 mini fluctuate throughout yesterday at Amazon.   There would be just 2 in stock for a few minutes then suddenly more available.   I’m guessing  refurbished late model iPhones are going to be in demand for awhile.  Not everyone wants Apple Intelligence or a hobbled $599 phone.  Mine were $279/each with 256GB storage.  So there!

  • Apple Pay returns to Home Depot, grocery chain H-E-B starts to accept it

It's worth noting that Home Depot did not accept any type of contactless payment options. It wasn't only Apple Pay that wasn't available.
Exactly!  I rarely use Apple Pay because I find tap to pay more convenient.   I’m a regular Home Depot shopper and hoping the machines that accept Apple Pay will also work with regular RFID cards.   I’ll certainly use Apple Pay if needed

  • Apple's lowest-selling iPhones still crush rival premium flagships

Well then, if they ONLY sell as well as most other companies offerings, it sounds like it's time to refresh the Mini in the near future.
It won't put Apple out of business, and my 12 mini is getting a little long in the tooth (what ever that means).

I bought a refurbished 13 mini the day after the 16 E-waste was announced.  I wanted to replace my 2nd gen SE, and thought they would have a 4th generation SE.

The phrase “long in the tooth” is believed to originate from horses, or more specifically, a horse’s teeth. How so? Because the older a horse gets, the longer their teeth become. So it is possible to give an approximation for how old a horse is simply by looking at their teeth.

  • Why you should use a VPN with public Wi-Fi hotspots

Why not use Apple’s built-in VPN, iCloud Private Relay? Same protection aside from from the location spoofing that a VPN will allow. https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/data/en/icloud-relay/
That doesn’t do what you think it does.  Furthermore it doesn’t do anything for apps, such as banking.   I fear that you don’t understand what iCloud private relay actually does, and by extension many other users are getting a false sense of security by using that feature

This is an APPLEINSIDER top story?  What does this have to do with Apple? Are there not already enough websites spreading political division and hate?
Considering the threats T has made towards Apple regarding tariffs on Apple products, iPhones specifically, it seems quite relevant.

  • Google claims it won half of its monopoly case, and will appeal the rest

Please, everyone use a different search engine.  I pay for Kagi, but DuckDuckGo is a good free alternative and they don’t track you.  If nothing else support the competitors

Perfectly safe in jolly ol England.  No one is allowed to have firearms there.

Oh yeah, car thieves are so well known for obeying the law.
One reason why banning guns never works. It ensures only the criminals have them.
Only in the U.S.   Did the car thieves come out guns blazing? No.   It’s not something people in UK worry about or likely even think about.

I would welcome old style Mac OS X System Preferences. iOS style with Mac related prefs is still confusing for me, have to use search for panes everytime.

  • Car makers reject CarPlay Ultra as an Apple overreach

I'm the S5 coupe owner you helped with my ordered S5 showed up with multiple dents in my Audi.  We plan to replace my wife's A4 with the new SQ9 which I have been following for at least the last couple of years.  One of our requirements is our new car had to have the new Apple CarPlay Ultra, I've read this morning that Audi has backed out of their original commitment to the enhanced CarPlay.  If that decision is true Audi will not be included in our search after owning (5) Audis we're moving on  Not a big fan of Kia but Kia has now been added to our list.  I thought you should know our feelings.  Thank you Russell.  PS, I still love my red S5 coupe which might be my last race car!  Sent to an Audi VP I know.

  • Developers can now try special offers to persuade subscribers to stay

I often start cancellation process with various services and frequently get discounts.    This is going to be a great way to attempt to get a lower price on just about any subscription.   I wonder if it will apply to Apple’s own subscription offerings.
