  • EU antitrust chief & Apple foe Margrethe Vestager out after 10 years

She did her job well and fearlessly.  Will be tough to follow up.

  • New Magic Mouse said to fix everything that's been wrong with it for 15 years

The reason the charging port is on the bottom is due to the original removable battery option. The charging port is in the same location as the latch for the removable battery cover. That allowed Apple to save $$ by keeping the industrial design almost identical between the two different versions.
That's ok then.  I'm perfectly happy to accept suboptimal design if it contributes to Apple's bottom line.

  • iOS 26 is here with Liquid Glass redesign, new Camera, and Apple Intelligence promises

The UI screenshots going round look terrible.  A lot of work needed to tone this mess down.

Why would I want to be able to see through my controls?!  The entire idea is stupid.  There had better be a system wide "turn off transparency" option.

  • Apple COO Jeff Williams retiring later in 2025, replaced by SVP Sabih Khan

2 years younger than Tim Cook.

Jeff Williams always seemed like a great guy.  Not flashy, just quietly getting the job done.

  • UK group wants $4 billion payout for iCloud users

I doubt this has legs, but I hope Apple up the storage level of the free tier to head it off anyway, the lack of increase over so many years is as much of an insult to their customers as is their RAM and storage upgrade pricing.

Warren is a career politician. I’m sure she’s very familiar with corruption.
No she isn't, she's a career academic who only got into politics in her 60s.

  • US will not tolerate EU fine against Apple, says White House

Appeal to what?  A kangaroo court that always fines US companies guilty and EU companies innocent?
Do you really believe that the US news bubble that you live in would report on the EU Commission fining EU companies?  Newsflash, they have done so many times, you are just ignorant of it.
US does not have any organization that can fine companies 10% of global turnover before any court appeals are done.  If the EU is not a definition of a kangaroo court, I don't know what is
If the only thing you're considering is the available fines then you've got a weird-ass definition of a kangaroo court.

Incidentally, this fine is well short of 10% of global turnover.  It's barely 1% of revenue in the EU.

You're probably right. It's sad, because with MagSafe half the electricity gets used to increase the entropy of the universe which raises carbon emissions for no reason. It is slow, it makes the phones bigger and heavier, and hardly anyone uses it. And yet, for so many years the only thing reviewers would say every September was "and it still doesn't have teh wireless chargez!". Apple doesn't want the big story in September to be that, so they will include the wasteful and useless thing.
There's a ridiculous number of false statements in your post. Is that suppose to be parody that is falling flat?
Actually most of the statements are true.  It is less efficient than wired charging, it is slower than wired charging and it does make the phone fractionally heavier (if not bigger).

But I don't agree that hardly anyone uses it - I suspect most people wirelessly charge.
    You believe that...

    • MagSafe half the electricity gets used to increase the entropy of the universe which raises carbon emissions for no reason
    • It is slow
    • hardly anyone uses it
    • wasteful and useless thing

None of those things are true as stated and most of the others have some truth to them but are lame duck statements, like "makes the phones bigger and heavier."
Wtf is a "lame duck argument"?

  • OpenAI's $6.5B bet on Jony Ive could redefine how people interact with technology

After reading John Gruber´s articles "something is rotten at Apple" and John Siracusa´s article "Apple Turnover", I have to say that something is really rotten at Apple.

Apple is behind in AI (LLM, Siri, their GPU capacity, human resources for AI etc.).
Apple is behind in their HW. Apple is launching foldables.... when??

Apple has been rotten with their timid updates for iPhones. Camera gets better and better, but not much.

    iPhone 17´s design is rotten.

    I mean.... What isn´t rotten?

I do not expect too much from io or OpenAI, but I hope they prove me wrong.

At the end, it is due that we really need "cool" devices nobody is thinkg about yet.

    Rotten Apple.
Agree with your general point, but couldn't disagree more with the specifics.  AI is an uncooked and destructive waste of time, and Apple aren't behind in hardware at all, their hardware is better relative to their competition than it has ever been. Software and developer relations is where they are falling over.  They have great products, that are being held back by their maker's greed and lack of care and attention.
