  • Intel to build $20 billion chip factory in Ohio

I'm not sure about the rest of them, but CMU is a three hour drive from there.

Three hours is a typical commute in Silicon Valley, and 3000 jobs is just the Intel jobs that doesn’t take into account all the support business’ that will pop up to fill the ongoing support needs of a Fab Facility. By keeping technology in the region other tech businnes’ might spring up creating a technology center where local engineering schools can send students for internships.

  • Unionized Apple Store seeks pay raises, customer tips

The Towson, Maryland Apple Store that unionized is entering negotiations again, with workers seeking the ability to accept customer tips.

Finally, the customer tip change. Workers want to give customers the opportunity to tip at checkout at 3%, 5%, or a custom amount.

"This will allow thankful patrons the ability to express gratitude for a job well done without any obligations," the union wrote Apple. "All monies collected through this manner would be dispersed to members of the bargaining unit biweekly based on any hours worked."

I’ve been supporting Apple Products for over 40 years and also moderate our Local Mac Users Group and I don’t expect any tips for my support. I do this because of my love and belief in Apple Products and it’s mission to its customers. As for the wanting pay increases they probably have no one to blame but themselves, who probably voted in this current administration, who has pushed our economy into the sewer.

  • BlackBerry CEO says Apple's security stance puts company over 'greater good'

The shooter's iPhone 5c had been prevented from making further iCloud backups after discovery by the FBI, because of a password request made by the city of San Bernardino at the behest of law enforcement. Chen is taking issue with Cook's refusal to order Apple engineers to build and maintain a tool allowing the FBI access to the encrypted iPhone..
As a retired Test Engineer, Apple does have a way to access the data on iPhones to bypass the lock feature, they have their bed-of-nails test beds used to final test logic boards prior to assembly into a finished iPhone. These test fixtures and associated test software  can be reprogrammed to download memory contents and associated secure enclave and provide that information to law enforcement for them to review and decrypt. This is possible because logic boards have test points used by test engineers to bypass normal inputs and outputs to speed testing of logic portions of the finished product.
  • Apple CEO Tim Cook calls for racial equality in light of US shooting deaths

    apple ][ said:
Yep, this is Obama's making. Even the good sheriff David Clark agrees with me.

And I've said it before, but I sure wish that Apple would STFU about politics!

Boy do I wish Tim Cook would spend more time improving products, pushing innovation, and improving investor equity instead of politicizing everything. Tim, if you want to run for political office resign from Apple and put your name in the hat next election. Considering Apple Stock reached an after hours low ($83.63) that hasn't been seen since 5/9/2014 ($83.64), Tim's focus isn't on Corporate Value.
  • Apple turning to new server suppliers to cut costs - report

Wouldn't it be nice if Apple made their own servers, running on their own OS...
I guess this is telling us that Apple CAN'T make Enterprise level equipment. They are so concerned about making Cradle to Grave hardware for their customers but are unable to make an Enterprise Server by the thousands to meet all their Data Center needs. It doesn't have to run OS X (Server) but it can be custom tailored to be power efficient and robust enough to meet all the demand needs of iCloud, iTunes, & App Store. You can't tell me that the company that created servers that created the Fastest Super Computer Cluster in 2008 at Virginia Tech and they only used G5 Xserves to accomplish the task aren't able to build an enterprise level server with all their added in house experience in 8 years.
