Apple Fellow Phil Schiller quits Twitter
Now seriously, I left social media two years ago. Never been part of pointless Twitter with shallow ways of flashy twits. Facebook was when opinions could be expressed deeper... until cancel culture shadow banning and banning for weak reasons or no reasons came.
Never felt better without social media at all after 12 years using it. Recognizing real friends and adversaries face-to-face is much better and being pressured to became socail media start reaching millions sounds like personal insecurity and search for approval. Perhaps that is some disorder. Decided to check if I have it too. No more. Perhaps this was reason for Shiller as well. -
Apple said to be working on fixing 'aggressive' skin smoothing in iPhone XS photos
The question is why I need any camera perform role of Photoshop? This job is doen for publishing using computer (or mobile) software. That does not mean that we want genuine photo to have those corrections. The original photo is supposed to have all details as in reality. Otherwise it is not camera, but some sort of reality corrective device and it is not in the same league with real cameras. -
Tony Fadell wants to see iPhone move to USB-C
chadbag said:Apple is considering the technology. Which is why they’ve resisted USB-C.Lightning does need to be updated to support higher data speeds and charging rates. But USB-C and it’s lousy connector isn’t it. -
Amazon Prime raising annual subscription to $139
dewme said:Not surprising, but fortunately it’s very easy for everyone who subscribes to Amazon Prime to do the math and determine whether it’s worth it for them. For a lot of folks the determination can be made based on delivery costs alone. The value of the extra stuff like photos, music, and video only enter the equation if you’re not getting all of the value/ROI from the delivery service.
I recognize this is a narrowly focused perspective based on personal economics alone. Like any system there are a number of macro level implications and second order effects to a service like this that makes it so incredibly easy have hard goods ordered on a whim delivered extremely quickly to your door with little to no regard to the true cost of the delivery service.
A quick survey of the number of Amazon vehicles on the road and coursing through neighborhoods nearly all of the time, not to mention the vast tracts of land devoted to fulfillment centers and warehouses, some of which are built on the graves of dead malls and retail stores driven out of business because they could not compete against online retail, and the mountains of cardboard waste (hopefully everyone recycles?) paints a truer cost picture that’s a little harder to do the math on.
The “eye” is back … staring straight at me. Ugh. -
New Apple TV 4K gets fix for storage space bug
williamh said:This temporary issue has undoubtedly caused incalculable damage to several people who may not even own AppleTV 4k but who nevertheless are representing all of us and are in the process of obtaining legal representation right now as I type.
It does not matter who reported or complained. Some people wanted to buy 4K as upgrade and they needed to take action to get Apple arrogant people to fix that storage issue.
I know for fact how Apple testing culture is internally as having friend in their development team who left them not that long ago. He stood really hard to complacent and arrogant managers who did not want to change to improve. Now Apple, may reconsider rehiring him as he is an expert working on autonomous cars in Silicon Valley large projects run by competitors. I bet they accepted his ways there. -
New Apple TV 4K gets fix for storage space bug

I'm sure Apple's products are programmed to get a jump on videos to allow them to be viewed properly. Philo seems to have problems with Hallmark movies, even DVR'd ones. Is is possible for other AppleTV apps to be programmed to start downloading videos before they start showing them to have a buffer to keep them going?
There's always a little buffer while streaming to ensure a smooth experience. You can tell that there is when you fast forward a little bit.My experience shows that it keeps a minimal amount of the past as well so you can rewind smoothly and repeat something without having to wait. -
Apple exploring the possibility of moving iPhone manufacturing to United States

Web link bug in iOS 9.3 causes apps to crash, freeze
Only one question that I wanted to ask for long time. Been Apple system user since Jaguar. At what point the QA team at Apple became so poor at testing? I know that 7 years ago support moved to different country and was not trained in proper level of curtesy initally (so Canadian support was helping me in the USA), but I bet that was fixed. Now QA these days at Apple. And it is not just about mobile devices. It is about mentality. -
New Chinese cybersecurity law will force Apple to keep data on local servers, aid gov't. searches

Cook was prepared to defy the FBI in the US to protect privacy. Let's see how far he'll go in China.
The only way around it would be to abandon China - like Google has done by the way back in 2010. Among the multi-nationals they are the only ones who won't be affected much by these rules because they already paid the cost of losing the Chinese market in 2010. -
Inside iOS 10: Apple's Data Detectors offer quick details on music, movies, actors
cali said:slurpy said:Nope, you're not the only one. I've been witnessing a very deliberate, systematic, intelligent, and effective approach by Apple to make searches obsolete and irrelevant in a ton of common situations. Its brilliant, and these are strengthened with every iOS/OSX release.
Glad I'm not the only one. When Apple showed off Force Touch Wikipedia info in OS X I chuckled. (WWDC 2015?)
Later I posted about it and everyone was like "wtf you talking about? It's for convenience only". But this convenience cuts down the steps of opening up Safari, going to google.com, searching for "Star Trek theatre times", scrolling over ads etc. Yes a huge population of people STILL go through all these steps. Heck, some people type in "yelp.com" in Google. SMH.
Seriously, Internet search engines are so 1996.
