QT has been like this since the 7.3 update. No-one seems to have a definitive answer, but a few suggestions to try HERE. I've given up and switch to Firefox when I need to view mpegs online.

When someone in our postal service started helping themselves to my mail-order DVD/CD's (five out of six ordered in one month), I utilized the DVD cases which the AOL ( ) installers come through your door in, along with some of my cats biological w…

Just do your everyday work in a 'Standard' account and have a separate 'Admin' account for occasional system maintenance. Anything naughty will always need to run an app or installer and thus will require Admin authorization. If you don't already…

My 400 G3 PB is running the Optiarc Superdrive perfectly well. Patchburn fixes the iApps and the firmware flashed to RPC1 for multiregion DVD playback, all for £26 ($55) IIRC.

As above, Grab works with VLC, or there is an app called DVD Snap on Versiontracker.

If the drive you choose isn't supported by iTunes etc, there's an app called Patchburn which solves it. I used it recently when I fitted an Optiarc (Sony/NEC) drive to my G3 PB after the OE LG failed due to a split ribbon. I opted for this drive as …

Can all those having trouble try clicking at the end of the URL to leave a cursor there, then press RETURN to reload the page. Try this a couple of times and see if, like mine, the video eventually plays. Firefox plays them fine, so one could assume…

Right, a bit of digging and this looks like it's quite common with plenty of reported cases on Apples discussion areas and across the web. It seems to affect QT 7.2+ and OS X 10.4.2+ but the trouble is with Safari. I have now installed Firefox and m…

iSquint does the trick, cheers Now, if only I could get Safari to play mpegs within the browser again

I've just used this trick to d/l a YouTube clip and I can't open it in QT or VLC. What are you using to play things back ??? For reference, the clip I used is.... http://youtube.com/watch?v=B5HL_OF_KSs

QT will play them, Safari will not. Before my troubles mpg's played in their own browser window, now it opens the window and displays the QT controls, but no image shows. I am guessing that there is a Safari QT component missing or broken. I've now …

Only precaution I take is to use a 'Standard' account for everyday with a separate 'Admin' account. If you use your admin account all the time you can be tricked as after entering the password there is a 300 second countdown before the OS will reque…

You can be tricked into opening concealed nasties as after entering the admin password there is a 300 second countdown where you won't need to enter it again if you are in an admin account. The way to beat this is to create a new account with admin …

Yeah, I do that, but each time I relaunch any app it has defaulted back to landscape. Tried it several times with Textedit today. Open doc, click portrait, print, close doc, quit app, open app, open doc, check page set-up and it's back to landscape
