There will be a lag, but on a LAN it's not great. But, with AutoCAD it may be worse than with other apps. VNC is free, so try it.

Going from iChatAV to AIM on a PC, audio chat won't work, only if the PC has a cam connected.

iChatAV works well with a PC using AIM. The PC has to be running XP and have the latest version of AIM, and also a small video file on the AIM site. As for the school problem, you IT guy would have to open the necessary ports for iChat.

You need to get the Pioneer DVR-106 0r A06, both the same drive, which is the same as Apple uses and is compatible with all Apple iApps. This drive is for OS X, if you'll be using OS 9, get the 105 model. http://www.esbuy.com had it the cheapest.
