Did you do a fresh install of leopard or an upgrade?

if you have another mac, back up your data in TD mode (target disk mode) and pull you files off. BTW are you using leopard? it sounds like you got one of the early installs of leopard? Try doing a software update, and update the firmware as well

try download and install mozilla firefox, if you get the same problems with firefox as with safari, than check your connection settings

I seriously think parrallels hogs ALOT of resources, I recommend vmware fusion
