Furthermore since AppleWorks ran fine on a 100mhz 603e and even lower (back when it was ClarisWorks), Rosetta should have no problem opening it.

Actually Tiger does have some resolution independent code in Quartz. If you have the dev tools installed and play with Quartz Debug, you can change the dpi for all Quartz functions (including user interface).

I thought they only came with iMacs/iBooks, not the PowerMacs/PowerBooks (which get some different software that the former do not).

3/4 -> you should try the Enlightment window manager, it has some interesting cool/fancy things. And 2/8 -> I agree, 64-bit is not really useful (to most users now), but sounds cool I guess. Kind of not really a real reason.
