Ok, had a little more time with the build: the menu bar is indeed "glossy". Menus still have stripes though. open/save panels have a spotlight search field, similar to what we have now on Panther in Finder windows. QT is the shit

Quote: Did you get to see what the new Apple menu is hiding? Nothing new, it's the same, just looks like the spotlight menu in the menu bar. Seems to be infinite on the left too, which will make Fitt's law fans happy Didn't check the open/sa…

I got a chance to get hands on with the Expo build. The build number is in the high A200s, sorry I don't remember exactly (I'd say 224, but don't quote me). New things I noticed: Finder updates instantly when new files are created (touch fo…

Yeah, I've had a similar experience, with 300GB+ of data. The MD importers seem to shit themselves on files without proper extensions, and some MP3 files too. It just goes over and over again on the same files, you can witness this by issuing a …

Quote: Is that including multichannel sound? Two channels doesn't quite cut it. :-) Nope. What do you intend to play them back with? Quote: Also, is support for encoding VOB-files from the harddrive better? It has never worked here. :-/ …

the developer is a close friend of mine, and i've been testing the new release privately. He should put out a beta tonight. IME it's been not only more stable, but much faster, and you guys will love the new options (MP4/OGM encoding).

This is a known issue with Panther, sometimes the OS just hangs, the only things still working is the mouse cursor. It isn't a RAM issue, I've got 1GB and it occasionally happens to me. AFAICT it isn't an app issue either. what happens is that ev…

Used to happen to me till 10.3.1 too, except the mac eventually recovered... Never happens on my parents" iMac though.. You sure you haven't installed some weird drivers or .apes?

Try out HandbrakeX... IME, it's the fastest and easiest solution around. AAC and mp4 support is coming too. handbrake.m0k.org. AND it has funky useless GL effects

Quote: GOSH! i just tried, you´re right!! makes you wonder, no..? i too really hope apple does something about this I've just noticed it doesn't display all elements of large folders, oddly. It seems to stop at item 192 or something.

Quote: I think the reason why Apple never optimized it is not because they can't, it's just because they don't want to create a special case for the applications folder. I mean, the file system is inherently slow for listing large folders, in order…

Quote: Originally posted by FotNS He didn't state that, and HFS is not 64 bit. it can handle files that are 2^63 bits in length, what else do you want?

as wmf stated, HFS+ has always been 64 bit... http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn/tn1150.html

so, do files created in the terminal appear instantly in the Finder yet (as of 7b49)? or do you still have to clic on the window?
-
Someone mentionned the Finder file refresh issues were fixed, does that mean files created in the Terminal appear immediately in the finder?
-
Skepticism is due to the fact that as of the WWDC Preview, the above mentionned "spatialness" involving list view doesn't work right I see the "dual mode" finder as a step in the right direction though

you mean to say, that when in list view in the classic finder aqua view, with one folder expanded (ie triangle vertical), double clicing on the folder will actually unexpand its contents in the list view window? If so, this is finally rhe return …
