  • Apple ID is getting a rebrand starting with the release of iOS 18

Apple ID continues to be misunderstood by some Mac users. Users don’t know when to use their iCloud account password or their Mac login account. I’m not sure changing iCloud to Accounts will help. I know some people use the same account name and password for iCloud and Mac login but not necessarily users who’ve used Apple products for years.

Will Apple Account consolidate iCloud and Mac login or will they continue to be separate?

  • First alternative to Apple Wallet is ready to launch in EU

I read Apple might get 0.15% of Apple Pay charges. The bank holding the credit card used by Apple Pay probably gets somewhere around 2-3%. The only way Apple would get millions of Euros would be if UK customers spent 10's of billions of Euros, not just a measly $4 Billion Euros. Yes, Apple makes money on Apple Pay but nowhere near the amount of money the greedy banks do. I am counting the days before the first exploit of Curve is blamed on Apple.

  • Apple's AI plans involves 'black box' for cloud data

Of course the EU, UK, DOJ and many more will bring lawsuits against Apple for only using Apple hardware and software. It will be nice when these corrupt government agencies are finally slapped silly by consumers who will vote them out of office.

  • UK rushes through Digital Markets Act copycat to regulate mostly US big tech

I feel so frustrated that Apple doesn't just say "Fuck Europe". There is no monopoly. The U.S. Congress is also trying to say that Apple is a monopoly. That's ridiculous. A monopoly is like when I want to subscribe to cable TV and my only option is Spectrum. If I want cable TV, then I only have one choice and that's it. That's a monopoly. Apple should be able to run their "store" how they feel fit. It's their store. Is the government trying to tell Walmart what they can or cannot put in their store? Are they trying to dictate to Walmart what prices they can charge? If you are not happy with Apple's business practices, then buy a phone from one of a dozen other manufacturers. No one is forcing you against your will to buy an Apple device.
Well Spectrum pays money to your community’s local franchise board for that privilege so if you have an issue with it you should complain to them. Also I’m betting that Spectrum can’t block your access to streaming services such as Apple TV, Netflix, Disney+, etc. despite the fact that those streaming services compete with Spectrum’s TV packages and uses their communication network.
You lost me at the blocking of streaming services. As a customer you are paying for Internet and that is one you can use as you see fit. There is no Internet without streaming package I am aware of. The CableTV and home phone business is in a nursing home bed on life support with a shrinking customer base. Cable companies will become ISP's and have to find new ways to gouge us. In the end wired ISP's will be used by businesses only.
Many cities are beginning to offer ISP-less internet access. These are run as a city utility with various rules. I moved from a smaller city that installed (not done yet) a fiber distribution network to every neighborhood. Installation to house was $100 with gig-Ethernet $67/mo. They lease a T1 line to Seattle where we connected to the main internet. No ISP but you can be a fool and connect through one. This is how internet should be done.

  • Judge questions Apple's commitment to App Store payment alternatives

Why does Apple has to have an alternative App Store payment process? When I go to any store, I pay the store. I don't pay the manufacturer of an individual product. I just don't understand why people can't see this. It's Apple's product so you pay Apple.
Do they only accept their own special card for payment on the toaster? How about cash? Maybe some competitor's card? Personal checks? Can I buy the toaster from someone else if the store I want to buy from won't accept my preferred payment method? Can I even buy the toaster direct from the manufacturer? What about a seller not liking that store's sales tactics and pulling their products to sell elsewhere?

That's why the point you were making is a silly one.
The market has ONE point of sale cash register/device. Sure, you can use the credit and debit cards they let you use (not all cards as accepted at all POS stations) along with cash (not all the time) but they still only have the one cash register system. That cash register is “Apple” when using their stores. As for buying the same product or app, there are other ways to pay for those apps via the web not counting Apple stores.
