  • UK backs down from nonsensical law after threats from Apple, WhatsApp

Time for the EU to follow suit.

  • Apple arguing iMessage isn't big enough to be EU gatekeeper service

I'm really getting tired with the EU's desire to tell every company how they are supposed to operate their products. It's obvious the EU is simply trying to break the security of Messages (iMessage went away a couple versions ago). The EU talks about companies being monopolies yet never look in the mirror to see that the EU is trying to be the monopoly, forcing companies to change to meet the EU's under-informed idea of security. Messages is Apple's product, there's no reason why it should have to be opened to third-party operators. The Eu is like a cartel, trying to run the world. Maybe if an EU company was able to create some software that people actually wanted to use they wouldn't have to try and force a non-EU company to alter their software, creating a front-door to read encrypted messages. We all know this is what they want to do.

  • Undercharged: iPhone 14 owners complain about lower battery endurance

As for all the commenters who have seen batter drain, please include types of apps being used, how you charge, where you use your iPhone (cold vs hot climate, inside and out) and how you protect your iPhone from the elements (it's in your pocket/purse, left out on the dash of your car or window sill, etc.). Batteries are batteries, hot and cold affect their performance and life.

I'm also seeing a lot of commenters with low number of posts. Are you all new? Changed your screen name? Have you owned iPhones for a long time?

  • Undercharged: iPhone 14 owners complain about lower battery endurance

I bought my iPhone 14 Pro Max 9/2022 and it's still at 100%. I only use Apple chargers and cables. I usually only charge my iPhone at night, which charges using Apple's optimized charging battery charging. I've had my phone last two days without charging. I don't have my phone glued to my ear but I do carry it and use it throughout the day. My Activity shows my highest activity is Home & Lock Screen, which doesn't surprise me because I have notifications turned on, next is Mail, News and Safari. I don't play games on my iPhone, it's too small and my fingers and thumbs are not pointed. I don't know why others are having problems but I surmise it's because of heavy use and constant charging.

BTW: I still have an original iPhone, which still works, so I've been using them for a real long time. The older batteries did do bad but I haven't had a newer iPhone have battery issues.

  • Apple Watch racial bias lawsuit dismissed with prejudice

If I remember correctly, trying to use a pulse oximeter on people with tattoos on their fingers or wrist also gave wrong readings. These devices use light so anything restricting the light will cause potentially wrong readings. I could see people with very fair skin also getting higher readings than “average” pigmented skin. Calling it a racial bias is incorrect since African Americans have skin pigmentation from very light to very dark. If they wan to use pigmentation color that’s fine. Maybe Apple could find a way to measure skin pigmentation and adjust either the intensity of the Watch light or the results to come up with a cluster result but I doubt the units hospitals and doctors offices have this capability. They’re looking for a range not a specific value.

Don’t know what’s going on today but I just got a reading of 100%. I’m usually in the high 90’s. I have gotten my summer tan so maybe that makes a difference.
