Why ISP email services are terrible, and what to use instead
Email provider is not the problem, it’s the ISP. My city owned and operated internet provider does NOT provide anything other than a connection to the internet. No email, no garbage interface between me and the internet. Users can pick whatever email service they want. Personally I chose Apple’s and have used it since they first provided email services. -
Ford will stick with CarPlay as GM exits for Google tech
mknelson said:"Apple intends to release what it calls the "next-generation" of CarPlay sometime in 2023, and will likely announce it at this year's WWDC. It will take over the car's instrument cluster to display gauges for stats like fuel and oil, engine temperature, and miles per gallon."
Should be "It could take over…" if the vehicles manufacturer allows it.
As for GM, I can see them backing off this at some point. Enabling Android Auto and CarPlay in Android Automotive shouldn't be difficult.
Otherwise, I expect somebody to hack Android Automotive to enable those services.
The strange thing about GMs original announcement is that the services they discuss are free for 8 years so I don't see where that revenue stream is coming from unless it's for a data plan. Their current Essentials plan (no data for WiFi) is pretty sensible with OnStar, remote settings and vehicle monitoring including location tracking. -
Apple Savings saw nearly $1 billion of deposits in first four days
The way I look at it is this. Using my Apple Card I get between 1% and 3% off all purchases. This amount goes directly into Apple Savings, currently receiving 4% interest. This is "free" money because normally I would have had to pay the full amount on purchases. (Yes, many credit cards do the same thing as Apple Card but I'm still saving money on purchases.) Right now the Market sucks big time. My IRA has some money in a CD, also at 4%, but the Market is so volatile I'd rather take this income than worrying about losing 25% of my IRA, which happened recently. The best part is I don't have to do anything other than sign up, everything else is automatic, which is not something other programs (probably) have. -
The Facebook privacy settlement is real -- how to claim your share
Looks like an April Fool's joke. Why would I want to claim a couple dollars by giving them personal information? Isn't that what Cambridge Analytica already has? Facebook already knows who used Facebook between those dates along with all their personal information. Facebook simply needs to send every Facebook user a secure link to get the money. Of course, this would still validate all the personal information Facebook already has. -
Apple finally launches high-yield Apple Savings account
