  • Proton lawsuit targets Apple's grip on iPhone apps & payments

Proton is based in Sweden so take a hike. If you don't like Apple's product, find something else. It's that simple.

Oops! My bad, I meant Switzerland not Sweden. My fingers aren't working like they used to. I do know the difference between these two countries. I visited Switzerland back in 2001 or so.

  • Why iPhone mirroring and Mac Live Activities aren't coming to the EU

Happy that Apple has started to challenge the corrupt EU. Apple is an American company that sells worldwide but I don't see any reason why Apple needs to include all their software for every country.

  • How to turn off Enhanced Visual Search for Photos on iPhone or iPad

I think this is the key part of this feature. Read the link above.

"One of the key technologies we use to do this is homomorphic encryption (HE), a form of cryptography that enables computation on encrypted data (see Figure 1). HE is designed so that a client device encrypts a query before sending it to a server, and the server operates on the encrypted query and generates an encrypted response, which the client then decrypts. The server does not decrypt the original request or even have access to the decryption key, so HE is designed to keep the client query private throughout the process."

When I read this it looks like the client's name is completely private making it safe for us. However, I have to wonder how many images are searched by Apple. It appears that Apple might be accessing everyone's encrypted images at least on iCloud, which bothers me but it wouldn't surprise me if Apple, like every government agency in the world, has access to just about every image saved by every camera in every store, street camera, etc. I'll wait to worry about this until I read an article about this feature being abused by our government.

  • Apple has a month to comply with EU antisteering mandate, or get fined again

"Apple's "good faith efforts to engage" with the European Commission."

I think this takes the biscuit.

It's fine for Apple to disagree with the EU but to 'comply' with a requirement that expressly goes against anti-steering tactics by imposing a seperate system that effectively imposes the same financial burden on developers under a different name is not engaging in good faith efforts.

Apple is really earning itself a bad name here.
Fine with me. The EU is a simple cartel, not a country. Apple is the manufacturer so if you don't like it find a different company. Oh, wait, there aren't any worthwhile cell phone manufacturers in the EU.

  • California Attorney General threatens lawsuit over potential 25% iPhone tariff

CA AG Bonta better take trump and his corrupt administration to court. People without any idea how and who actually does the real work in the USA are trying to make people believe there's a billion people who could step right in and build small computerized devices. We're seeing farm, restaurant and hotel workers leave their jobs so they don't get illegally deported. Our colleges graduate way too many lawyers and MBAs, people who could never build anything. The USA doesn't need more desk jobs they need to train and pay people who are willing to work with their hands in a trade. China has a laborers workforce of over 400M with a total workforce of over 700M. The USA's total workforce is around 170M and I bet well over half of these are menial desk jobs. China also has every kind of precious metal and natural resource within their borders to make just about anything but especially computer devices. This is why iPhones are made in China. Sure, there are manufacturing facilities in India and other countries with high available labor forces but it's the raw materials that would cost much more in the USA because we don't have everything we need here. The material we have costs way too much because American companies only care about making money for themselves and their stock holders. It would be nice if the trump administration would take a labor job for one week. None of them would last more than 5 minutes before getting kicked out for not being able to do the most menial job. I doubt any of them actually know how to clean their kitchen or bathroom. They undoubtedly have immigrants doing it for them.
