Masimo has spent $100M in Apple Watch patent infringement fight
bulk001 said:It doesn’t matter if you love Apple and hate Masimo or their business practices. It will all come down to what the law says. So far Apple has lost on every step here but they have gotten to a place where they can argue their case in a Federal court. You can play outraged armchair patent lawyer or wait for the case to be heard and judged on the merits as it relates to the law. Till then it is all empty speculation.
lost every step up to now. The actual patent trial was a mistrial (and seems to have been in Apple’s favor 6-1).I’m interested is evidence that Apple is actually infringing whatever patents Massimo is claiming. This sort of O2 Sat technology has been around forever. The patent is not on O2 sat tech. It is on a specific “new” refinement of the tech. Has Massimo presented evidence showing actual infringement or are they just saying “Apple must be infringing to be able to do that” like many of these claims seem to be. -
American Express doesn't seem that interested in an Apple Card partnership
Good. No need for another Amex based card.Hopefully who ever dies the partnership with Apple keeps it a Mastercard. I have a billion Visa cards but only one other Mastercard beside the Apple Card and for some reason JR East (Japanese rail company) allows you to load your virtual Suica cash/transportation card using Apple Pay but not with Visa. Mastercard (and Apple Card ) works great. I think Amex also works but I have no need of another Amex card but a master card is usable pretty much everywhere. Plus JR East. Since we travel to Japan every other year and the whole family has virtual Suica cards and I can share my Apple Card with family members and Apple Pay, the whole
family can easily add to their Suica. -
Apple's new Apple Card & Goldman Sachs statement doesn't clarify things at all
zoetmb said:In spite of credit checks up front (my granddaughter, recently graduated from college, was rejected), I bet there must be a surprisingly high default rate combined with a high number of users paying off at the end of each month and therefore, not paying interest. And there’s no fee.But I’d be shocked if Apple didn’t find another financial institution to take on the card, especially if the savings account goes with it. They will want those assets. But if they don’t, it’s not that big of a deal. I certainly got along without it before it existed and I have several other cards. One thing that bothers the OCD side of me is that the last few transactions of a given month are frequently tied to the following month. It’s not strictly calendar month even though all the past transactions are tied to a calendar month.…The other issue will be that with a new bank, I bet we have to reapply and get a new account. Bet they also give up that fancy physical card (which I never carry anyway). When Citi sold their Hilton branded card business to Amex we did not have to re-apply. We just got new Hilton branded Amex cards in the mail. Balances and everything were carried over to Amex. The difference is that the Citi was a was a Visa while the Amex was obviously an American Express card. As American Express already had a Hilton branded card when they took over the Citi Hilton cards and I already had one, I to this day have two separate Amex Hilton cards. -
DuckDuckGo could have been Apple's private search engine

South Korea threatens to fine Apple over App Store dominance
For those saying this is to protect Samsung. Samsung phones for the most part use Android and I would assume the Play Store is predominant even on Samsung phones and Google is being accused as well as Apple and their proposed fine is more than twice the Apple one. So I’m not sure how this is protecting Samsung. This is what happens when bureaucrats have jobs and nothing to do. They make up things to investigate and fine people for so it makes them look important and justifies their jobs. (Only half said tongue in cheek).
