  • Amazon layoffs much worse than expected, will hit 18,000

They should put the people to work on profitable things. Grow your profits by doing interesting profitable things with them.  The problem isn’t too many people.  The problem is not using them in a profitable way.

As is mentioned, you don’t grow by shrinking.  You grow by coming up with new and interesting products.

  • Meross Smart Garage Door Opener review: Not your father's garage door opener

I’ve had one of these for a good while now.  It worked great for months.  Now I need to reboot it (unplug and plug back in) regularly.  Sometimes it lasts for hour and sometimes a few days.  Then it goes unavailable and doesn’t come back until I unplug it and plug it back in.

WiFi signal is strong where it is at.  I am not sure if the problem is the controller or my HomeKit installation but everything else in my Home seems to be working.  And it doesn’t show up in the Meross app either until unplugged and plugged back in, so I suspect the device.

My ladder is currently at our new home construction site so I haven’t been able to reset it recently so it’s not currently in use :(.   Also, the Home app claims there is a software update for it but the Meross app claims it is ok to date (when reachable).

  • Amazon Alexa bled $10 billion in cash in 2022

Jeff could have slid me a cool mil or two and I could have told him this is how it would turn out in exchange. He could have saved billions of dollars.   Ever since they announced Alexa and people were talking about ordering their crap through Alexa I knew it would crash and  burn.

Disclaimer: Amazon trucks come to my house almost daily some weeks. So this is not any anti Amazon bias in my part.

  • St. Louis Apple Store second to seek IAM union membership

Is there an available explanation for selecting “ The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union” to represent retail sales clerks? Machinists and aerospace workers seemingly worlds apart from sales clerks. And with that minimal expertise in how a sales position functions.
I did not find anything directly to your point but it seems “The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers” is more a historical name that has been maintained.  The focus of the union over time has greatly expanded with mergers, expansion, etc.   it may be because Apple is a hi-tech company and some of their other efforts are hi-tech associated it appears that they were chosen.

I’m not a union expert and am generally not supportive of modern labor unions.  The above came about through some online overview research.

Of course, if you want this sort of performance, make sure your device can support the level of performance your storage is capable of.
