Qualcomm could still win an iPhone ban in the US at the hands of the USITC
I don't have the solution, but sure wish there was an answer to all of this tech patent wild-west antics that have been going on for a couple of decades now. I won't claim anyone as being a "patent troll", but the point of a patent is to protect ones invention or ideas in order to develop and profit from it. It is NOT intended to be a "I thought of it first but don't do anything with it so now you have to constantly prove you aren't getting near it". When we are to a point where a patent is limiting technology growth or stifling innovation because someone refuses to budge because they feel they can just have your entire product banned, we need reform.
I'm not saying strip patents from everyone, or anyone, but something has to be done. What that something is...I have no idea. just sick of hearing things like this, and yes I know Apple does it as well to others. But I don't view Apple as someone with tons of patents and no plans to ever develop or use them. -
Apple to build $1B campus in Austin, increase employment nationwide
Glad to hear it! Austin is perfect for Apple and Apple is perfect for Austin. More jobs, more ideas, and more innovation is never a bad thing. I trust Apple leadership to not throw money away and they must see a path to a positive ROI in these new campuses, and will continue to trust them until they show me a reason not to. -
Some iPhone apps handing precise location data to as many as 40 businesses
Everyone else probably knows, but I've always wondered if selecting Share location "while using app" means as long as it the app is even up in the background (meaning I can app switch to it). Does it? Or only when the app is up on my screen? I have every single app set to not allow or only when using, but always figured they were gathering more. Weatherbug is coming off my phone right now. -
TestCard turns your iPhone into a private, clinical-grade urinalysis kit
I'd suggest the creators of this product also offer something outside of the medical field. People are VERY sensitive about their medical records, rightly so, and the thought of this could give some people pause.
I'd suggest starting with pool chemicals
They already have the dip test strips, with this you could put all of them on one card and let your camera decipher the tiny color differences that even the human eye can't pick up to give you accurate readings. Tie that in with an app that could take those readings and immediately tell you exactly what chemicals and in what amount to add and you are all set. Don't even get my thinking about tying that app then to an automated pool system which could deliver the chemicals in the right amount for you!
