Geekbench reveals M2 Ultra chip's massive performance leap in 2023 Mac Pro
AppleInsider said:...
The benchmark reveals a single-core score of 2,794 and a multi-core score of 21,453 for the 2023 Mac Pro, in contrast to the highest-end Intel-based Mac Pro equipped with a 28-core Xeon W processor, which scored 1,378 in single-core and 10,390 in multi-core performance. As a result, the new Mac Pro offers more than double the speed of the fastest Intel-based model and at a significantly lower price.

Even if real world is not twice as good, the new Mac Pro must certainly be quite a bit better. -
Why Apple Vision Pro has a chance at being the future of work
AppleInsider said:
...Even though it wasn't an app shown on the Home View, FaceTime, pun intended, is an obvious collaboration star. The true collaboration and connection star of Vision Pro behind FaceTime is SharePlay.
Apple's SharePlay technology has been around for years but it hasn't really gotten much of the spotlight or consumer attention. Up until now, watching a movie across two iPhones was a bit awkward and more of a demo.
However, SharePlay as the linking piece for documents, presentations, and all kinds of files you'd like to share during spatial computing is much more interesting.
...
Whether via SharePlay or other, making it easy to share documents, presentations or the desktop using FaceTime -- while a FaceTime call is in progress -- is the way to go. And of course, being able to do so would be valuable for all FaceTime users, not just users of spatial computing/AVP. -

Hands on with Apple's new Pro Macs -- Mac Pro & Mac Studio with M2 Ultra
303summerwalk said:roundaboutnow said:On Mac Studio M2 Ultra, I see 4 TB ports on rear, 2 TB ports on front, and 1 HDMI port on rear. So no way to directly connect "Eight displays with up to 4K resolution at 60Hz" ...at least one TB dual-display adapter would be needed.
If I want to drive 8 HDMI displays, it should be possible to install four TB-to-dual HDMI adapters on the 4 rear M2 Ultra TB ports.
I'll be looking into this further, but if anyone has any insights on doing this, I'd appreciate hearing about it.
I think the key is daisychaining. Google it.(Many commercial displays can be daisy chained, but this is for distributing the same signal to multi-monitor arrays. If you don’t need to address the native resolution of the entire array, this can work.)PS: I appreciate you taking the time to post, but if you’re going to make a suggestion, a brief explanation or link would be helpful. Just saying “Google it” is lazy. -
