  • No, Apple is not going to delete the Clown emoji from the iPhone

Here's another example: I once kiddingly said to someone, "did you know the word 'gullible' isn't even in the dictionary?". They looked at me seriously and said, "really?"

Honestly most people don’t want to waste the time and/or point out that you’re an idiot, and possibly hurt your feelings or embarrass you by saying of course gullible is in the dictionary. The only thing that happens with your exchange is that you try to make yourself feel smart and now the person you were talking to thinks you’re an idiot.
Calm down...I was trying to be funny. You know the word "kiddingly" right? If the other person realized it was a joke, we both would've had a laugh. Jeez.

  • How to repurpose an old iPad and make it useful again

I'm using my 1st gen iPad Air (MD786LL/A) as a second Mac display using the Yam Display app. There is a free version, but I paid $7 or $8 to get the full version. The iPad is connected to a 13" i5 MBP via USB. You need to install a free Mac version of Yam on the Mac. Unlike Sidecar, you can use finger touch on the iPad to interact with macOS (although I don't do this very often).

Speaking of Sidecar, I later got a refurb 2018 11" iPad Pro, and use Sidecar to connect it (also via USB) to the same MBP, at the same time as the Yam iPad.

So now I have a compact triple display set up on my small home office desk. The MBP and iPads are on separate stands. The iPad stands I got are a bit low, so the bottom edge of the iPads are a little lower than the bottom edge of the MBP display, but it works. The very high DPI of the iPads helps compensate for their small size.

  • Apple Pencil Pro and new iPads are a warning shot at Wacom

I'm an amateur with some drawing skills with a 2018 11" iPad Pro and pencil. I was looking online for tutorials on drawing/painting on iPad. However there are so many Youtube videos to sort through, it's hard to tell where the good ones are. (I happen to have Sketches Pro and Sketchbook, but it looks like Procreate is the one to use, so I'll take a closer look at it).

Can anybody recommend some good tutorials for drawing on the iPad (Youtube or elsewhere)? Preferably free, since I'm not a pro.

Also, I don't like the slipperiness of the pencil on the iPad glass, and would like to get recommendations for alternate tips and/or overlays that are not too expensive. App recommendations would be welcome too!

    Thanks!

  • Apple teases more Immersive Video dinosaurs for Apple Vision Pro coming soon

The immersive videos are absolutely completely incredibly mind blowing.
Agreed! And I want to see something other than dionsaurs. Why not an immersive tour of Apple Park? Or Yosemite? Or a flight along the Monterry coast? Or to get really adventuresome an immersive view of Machu Picchu? The possibilites are endless.

Or, you know, take a trip to those places instead of wearing a goofy face-mounted iPad for masturbatory sizzle reels.

The success of the AVP will be in its ability to apply spatial concepts to everyday computing—expanding and improving the process of working with information. The recent stories of the AVP being used in operating rooms is a great example of this. Stupid 3D videos for the easily distracted? Come on now. What a waste of the technology.
That first sentence is a pretty shitty response...

While it's true that for the price of AVP, you could take a trip to maybe one or two of those places, but not all of them. And while not a substitute for a real live experience, you probably could not duplicate the immersive views possible with AVP on your own (without significant additional expense), such as those that come from aerial views, underwater views, microscopic views, etc. And of course, the dinosaur content is pretty difficult to experience in real life! Personally, I love nature and science shows, and while the AVP is still a bit more than I want to pay, I would welcome as much immersive content in these categories as possible.

Also, while I agree that quite a lot of success of AVP will come from the applications to everyday computing, as Lordjohn replied, it's not either/or. I think the immersive content will be a huge part of its success.
