  • Apple explains why Microsoft xCloud won't be coming to the iPhone

“App Store guidelines state that an app can't rely on streaming from the cloud”

Guess they’d better shut down Netflix, Prime, and Spotify then. After all, as Tim Cook swore under oath last week, Apple treats all developers equally with the same rules to ensure an equal playing field, right?

Not the same thing at all. Those apps stream "passive" content (audio and video files), not executable code (games); they do not rely on streaming from the cloud as part of their execution. All the code needed to run is contained in the app bundled that is downloaded by the user from the AppStore.

  • Microsoft fires back at Apple, accusing it of treating gaming apps differently

Apple has never allowed code to be downloaded and executed in any 3rd party iOS app - this is the easiest method of how systems are attacked by malicious code.

Steve Jobs was also adamant about not allowing 3rd party RTE's on their platform because they had the potential of holding back users ability to upgrade the OS, thus keeping the entire platform from being able to move forward - it's the biggest reason why Apple is able to push a vast majority of their user base to the newest release of their operating systems.

This is why any developer who makes a web browser cannot use their own web "engine" and must use the built-in Webkit engine for DOM rendering and javascript execution. This is also why Flash or Silverlight or any kind of gaming console emulation apps never appeared in the App Store. And it is the same reason Microsoft cannot have their gaming streaming service on iOS.

  • Nvidia is reportedly in 'advanced talks' to acquire Arm Holdings

I just looked it up. Last I had heard, and I was going off VERY old information, Intel had bought NVIDIA. I also talked to my IT manager, here, to be sure, and he agreed. Turns out we were both wrong, because I can't find confirmation of the purchase.
    1. nVIDIA is not Intel. They are two separate companies and have nothing to do with each other.
    2. Intel IS NOT China. They are an American company based in Santa Clara, CA U.S.A. (Actually just "down the road" from nVIDIA).
    3. Maybe you're thinking of AMD buying ATI/Radeon? Even then AMD is an American company -and ATI was a Canadian company.

  • Apple silicon Macs to support Thunderbolt despite shift to ARM

So this explains the questions about eGPU.

eGPU's will be supported even as Apple not to offer AMD/nVidia discrete GPU's on the motherboard.

This is probably correct... But I'd think Apple would still offer a discrete GPU BTO option for Pro systems. Daughter cards for the Mac Book Pro and iMac Pro, and full cards for the Mac Pro.

  • Unreal Engine releases an app that uses Face ID to capture 3D facial animations

Technically speaking, they are not actually using Face ID, they're using the True Depth camera system with ARKit to capture depth and facial landmark location data. Face ID is the iPhone's security authorization API, which also uses the True Depth camera for facial recognition.
