Apple's record $81.4 billion Q3 obliterates Street expectations
lkrupp said:fallenjt said:And AAPL after hour trading drops over 1%. What kind of WS bullshit is that? Why do you seem so angry? You know it doesn't make sense to blame the stock drop right after earnings on covid-19, right? It's almost like you used that as a convenient jumping off point to make some angry statements. Since you're really smart and good at judging people, I'm sure you know that the mRNA vaccine only confers partial immune response (spike proteins), thus giving the virus opportunities to evade this narrow barrier in order to create variants. Whereas people who get the virus naturally have a much much lower reinfection rate due to the broader immune response, and thus give the virus less opportunity to create variants. So, in reality, if you got vaccinated, you're part of the variant problem. The more you know.Anyway, I gave up on trying to make sense of AAPL fluctuations a long time ago; there's too much manipulation to be able to predict much. -
HBO officially kills Apple TV Channels integration
ArchStanton said:patchythepirate said:chadbag said:I am not am HBO subscriber and don't plan on it. So humor me. Is there really anything compelling enough to stay on HBO if they want to make you run their app vs the customer friendly Apple TV integration?
Since HBO is basically giving the finger to customers who want the integrated experience instead of each separate app (I assume this breaks the Siri search integration in the Apple TV all in one solution), should customers give the finger back and just drop them? This is all on Apple, for their crappy Apple TV app implementation that makes watching series shows a pain (doesn't keep track of where you left off right, doesn't automatically restart the next video right, etc). I don't understand why Apple can't get something so relatively simple right. I doubt it'd break siri search.FWIW, I'm really like HBO. It's worth subscribing just for the show Raised by Wolves (amazing sci fi), and of course game of thrones, westworld, true detective, good movie selection, etc.Channels is decent. I use a third party integrated menu but that’s not for the average user. And likely what this is about is HBO looking for greater control of user and probably user data. This is a game to make money. HBO is just doing what they think will help that. No shame in that.

Inversely, the HBO Max app sucks eggs. The UX sucks, the promoted content mechanism sucks (hate how it plays the audio constantly despite having moved elsewhere on the screen so you can’t even see the promo but still have to listen to it), and HBO infamously broke simple scrub and rewind functionality with their non-native viewer a couple weeks ago and had to revert after the public outcry.
This is all on HBO, who left the channels system to push their crappy app.Well, my experience is that it doesn't do a great job keeping track of things. Maybe it's from me going back and forth between the app and the Apple TV app? I think I'm also annoyed that it doesn't automatically play the next episode in the series in the Apple TV app. Not a deal breaker though by any means. Cant wait for Ted Lasso and Foundation to start.I definitely agree about the HBO UX sucking. -

Apple urging retail staff to wear masks again even if they're vaccinated
Xed said:patchythepirate said:tylersdad said:lkrupp said:Xed said:sdw2001 said:It is amazing how we just keep repeating the insanity. We know that mask mandates and lockdowns don’t work. This is unequivocal. That is not to say masks don’t work at all, but the way we’re wearing them clearly will not be effective. We aren’t talking about wearing an N 95 or better mask when entering a high risk environment like a medical facility or a nursing home. We’re talking about wearing a piece of cloth or paper across your face while you shop for your new AirPods. It’s not going to do anything.
I now see plenty of businesses saying that if you're vaccinated you don't have to wear a mask, but for unvaccinated people to wear them. Are unvaccinated people going to wear masks? Not the ones that I know.
But on the other hand, the government is so incompetent it would be a complete mess. I got a letter from my county health department saying they had no record of me getting my second Pfizer shot. I got both shots at the same county vaccination center and have my county vaccination card with both stickers showing the dates and time of both shots. See what I mean?Actually, in England, vaccinated people make up %40 of covid hospitalizations.Which is expected when using a weak mRNA vaccine that only covers one aspect of a virus (spike protein), rather than traditional vaccines that use the entire virus particle to elicit a full immune response; it's very strange that mRNA vaccines are being pushed, while natural immunity is being ignored. Is this because natural immunity is so much worse? (Of course not); is this due to desire to control, to push for vaccine passports, etc? (Seems like it). What are you talking about? Lol. They're all weak. J&J is not a traditional inactivated vaccine. Like the mRNA vaccines, it too focuses on triggering spike protein creation; not only does this do a poorer job of stopping infection and spread, but it also leaves open more opportunity for mutation and variance. Good one??
