  • Apple wants to screen real F1 races after its film's success

As it currently stands, most F1 races are borefest processions with almost zero overtaking. Yes the British GP last weekend was exciting but most of that was down to the weather. (it rained a bit).
I used to watch F1 and even go to the odd race but then it went behind a paywall and going costs an arm and a leg and then some.
F1 today is all about how much money can be fleeced from the fans and now much advertising can be eyeballed by viewers and not the racing.

I hope Apple does not pay good money for the F1 rights. There are better and more exciting sports to broadcast. Tiddlywinks perhaps?

  • Apple researchers work to stop AI from taking actions you didn't approve

As long as I can disable it, I'm fine. As long as an update does not sneakily enable it (like MS does to features you have turned off on a regular basis) I'm fine.

Try telling a court, 'Sorry, my phone's AI bought a 1st class flight to Hawaii when I really wanted a bus ticket from NYC to Philly"

AI, as it is currently implemented, is an over hyped POS. Sure, there are a few things it can do for us, but there is no killer app. I don't want it anywhere near my devices.

  • Apple partner Texas Instruments is spending $60B on chip production in the US

Kinda ironic really when Intel are laying off thousands. Perhaps there will be a fab that TI can buy cheap and save a few years and a lot of $$$$$
I guess Intel is wedded to the wrong sort of chip?

  • Apple Pay prank irritates victim, TikTok prankster gets what they deserve

Increasingly grumpy "get off my lawn you bloody lot" boomer vibes from this author. You sound like you hate TikTok, kids these days, pranks, The Daily Mail, and likely yourself. Cheer up, bruv! You're being quite the downer.
You are correct. He’s really bad on the podcast. He doesn’t understand tech, software, tech products. He can’t hold a conversation about current events in the news like Fortnite and the App Store he knows about the App Store but doesn’t know what Fortnite is. He can’t tell the difference between iPhones, iPad and Apple Watch models and refuses to upgrade his old stuff because he thinks the new stuff is exactly the same as the old stuff. It’s time for him to give up on being in tech, I’m not saying it’s time for nursing home but let someone else who is passionate and up on tech take your spot here. It would be great for this site and especially Wes the other guy on the podcast. William is really dragging him down. Wes is great and William is actively driving people away from the podcast with his lack of knowledge and inability to intelligently discuss current events and tech.

I take it that you have an encloypedic knowledge of all Apple Model numbers aroiund the world since the release of the iMac?
Very few non-nerds can identify each and every apple model of iPad, MacBook or Phone.  I would not dare to try.

  • Apple accused of cashing in as UK battles phone theft surge

Many of these phones are stolen to order and are shipped out of the country within hours.
Some have been found in China, Russia and the Middle East.
Would your local Police try to get them back even if you know where it is?
    Probably not.
Anyone taking selfies is advertising what phone they have.  Again, an invitation to the gangs of thieves.
Flashing your maxi-sized phone around in places like the middle of London or any big city is  IMHO flashing an invitation to these gangs to come and get the phone.
That's why I use an iPhone SE. Hardly worth nicking.

I have seen these gangs in operation in Glasgow. They are incredibly well organised.

Could Apple and Google do better?
You bet. They could automatically disable the phone the next time it is connected to a network. That might not be so easy in some countries.  Make reporting the theft easy. Do it in hours not days.
But people, please don't waft your top of the range phone around in crowded places/tourist hotspots. If you to make sure that it is covered by insurance.
Oh, Apple, please allow people to register their phone with you. Connect the IMEI etc with you. How many people know the serial number or IMEI number of their phone? You don't so make a database so that when your phone is stolen, those details can be available to you and law enforcement.
