  • Israel-based Corephotonics sues Apple over iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8 Plus dual-lens camer...

Real timely. 7+ has been out for over a year. Corephotonics is just now figuring this out?
It does not matter. For many of these companies, the longer they wait before filing suit, the bigger the per device damages that can (hopefully) wring out of Apple.

  • Apple calls $506M WARF patent ruling 'fraught with error' in start of appeal

Will they get justice in wisconsin? Isn't this a little difficult given the fact that it is a local University and the jury will could be wanting to send their children there in the future.
No evidence but I'd certainly be asking for a change of venue. IANAL etc so the above can be ignored.

  • New York City subway will replace MetroCard with Apple Pay tap-to-pay starting in 2018

It is interesting that of all the places I've been in the US, NYC is the one that uses what now seems an antiquated cardboard card. I realise that updating the entire Subway system is non-trivial, so it makes sense that they've taken longer than most to update, but it does mean one fewer cards in my collection of international travel cards. (Although maybe I'll get a card anyway, since credit card fees, plus ForEx fees might make using Apple Pay more expensive, if a lot more convenient.

I use a pre-paid multi-currency card for things like this. You only pay a ForEx fee when you load the money onto the card in your local currency and change it into USD or Euro's or whatever.
Some hotel reservation systems don't like them so I often make the reservation using a normal card but pay with the currency card. Other than that paying for tolls etc with them is far, far easier.

  • Apple's Cook visits Normandy war cemetery, iPhone X supplier ahead of meeting Macron

Walking through the cemetery at Normandy just takes the wind out of you.  And it puts into perspective a whole lot of other overinflated problems we are caught up with in the here and now.

Interesting little tidbit about Face ID technology.  Would be interested to know more about this French company.

The hundreds of cemeteries in and around all the WW1 battlefields are even more moving. Then Tyne Cop near Ypres as the sun sets and finally hearing the 'last post' played at 20:00 daily at the Menin Gate in Ypres is almost guarenteed to bring a tear to your eyes.
I visited the Museum at Pegasus Bridge last Monday. This was the first place liberated on D-Day. also where the 1st Casualty happened.
We owe so much to all of the nations involved in both World Wars.

  • Jony Ive recalls how Steve Jobs taught him to say no, especially when it hurts to do it

Saying No instead of Yes is really hard for many people to do. Far too many people say Yes when they really mean No just for a quiet life.
You can't have a real debate about anything without being able to say No!
Moving forward in a design process involves a lot of Yes and No.

Sometimes you do have to compromise. I suspect that the 'notch' is one of them. We shall see next year won't we?
