  • Apple hit with new iPhone throttling class action in California

I want to see how the plaintives express harm.  Because without proof of harm, there’s no damages to be had.
All you have to do is find a sympathetic jury that thinks all companies are evil. These would usually be blue collar individuals, union members, the underemployed. A good lawyer combined with a good jury consultant can hand select a jury almost assured to find for the plaintiff. Once that happens proof of harm doesn’t matter, the law doesn’t matter, nothing matters. That jury will award all it can to the plaintiffs. That’s why these cases are usually settled before any trial. I live in Madison County, Illinois which is known as a judicial hellhole. It’s a unionized, democrat party controlled, lower middle class demographic. One time I was dismissed from jury duty because I had a college education. The minute the plaintiff’s lawyer found out I was educated he gave a thumbs down. Personal injury cases are always filed in Madison County because juries here are 100% guaranteed to find for plaintiffs every time. They like giving money away.

  • Apple clarifies Safari Safe Browsing feature following Tencent data reports [u]

I put this squarely on AppleInsider’s editorial staff. They ran with this very clickable, scary China article before checking the facts. They didn't want to be scooped by MacRumors or 9to5Mac. Only now comes the update after the usual trolls here jumped on it.

Apple does not send your browsing habits to Google or Tencent. Instead Apple compares the URL against databases it obtained from Google and Tencent. Nothing leaves Apple. You are not tracked by Google or Tencent. Apple is merely using lists of suspicious websites it has in its possession to warn the user that the website they are visiting may be compromised. End of story.

Yet another gotcha story planted to stir the pot and all the Apple tech blogs took the bait without investigating. It was on the Internet so it must be true, right? Is that how online tech journalism works? God help us all.

  • Apple launches service program for iPhone 6s, 6s Plus models with 'no power' issues

. Apple notes the program covers affected devices for two years after first retail purchase.
Huh?   But this is a 4 year old phone!   So, does this problem only impact phones that were made roughly 2 years after the initial release?

Essentially, most owners of the 6S will not be covered here simply because, 2 years ago I don't think Apple was even selling the 6S -- at least not in the U.S.   As I remember, they were selling the X, the 8 and the 7 at that time.
“Most” 6S owners are not affected by this issue. Apple knows precisely what component fails and what manufacturing date range it fails in. I can’t remember when or if Apple ever started a program that covered an entire model’s manufacturing life. And as I pointed out in another post a lot of the phones affected are still under warranty. Only 6S phones manufactured between Oct 2018 and Aug 2019 are in this program, NOT all 6S phones.

  • Editorial: Are Apple's incremental iOS 13 & macOS Catalina updates enough?

stupid clickbait title. I already knew the answer considering the author.

I’m thrilled that DED gets under the skins of a certain ilk.

  • Apple releases iOS 13.1.2, iPadOS 13.1.2, watchOS 6.0.1 updates

Not to trash Apple at all, but I wish Apple
would either wait a bit longer to release a major iOS upgrade or at least raise the bar with the quality of products and services.
If Apple delays the release of software or hardware because of problems people go crazy predicting doom and gloom, and incompetency (see AirPower reaction). If Apple releases on time but with bugs people also go crazy predicting gloom and doom, and incompetency. In short, Apple can’t win with the Internet immediate gratification crowd. Apple is damned if they and damned if they don’t. See this very thread.

Of course for those whining about three updates in a week they have the option of not updating at all. They can just learn to live with the bugs and features these updates fixed. But somehow I don’t think that’s an option with those types. It’s more fun to predict gloom, doom, and incompetency.
