How iPhone batteries work, and how Apple manages performance over time
Sorry Mike, I know that your intention in writing this article is to help Apple to contain damages. But,
1. Apple slows down my iPhone 6 Plus (it) from 1400MHz to 936MHz randomly, while no app was running (besides CPU DasherX with which used to show the CPU speed). It was in room temperature, i.e. not in “extremely cold” temperature, but it was getting hot by itself that trigger me to test it.
2. The iPhone 6 Plus is only 10 months old and the battery condition is 94% as revealed by coconutBattery app when connected to a Mac.
3. Throttling happens too when the iPhone 6 Plus is attached to a 2.1A Apple original charging source.
4. All my family members and many friends with iPhone 6 Plus experience speed throttling more severe than iPhone 6s.
So, all of the battery myth told by Apple and you, fail to give an explanation why my iPhone 6 Plus has been throttled! -
Apple apologizes for iPhone slowdown controversy, will reduce out-of-warranty battery repl...
There are many other reasons other than the depleting battery. My iPhone 6 Pluses have 89% to 95%. They don't shut down. What about Apple Watch Series 2? Why doesn't it responsive after upgraded to watchOS 4.2? When I bought my iPhone 6 Plus as a replacement of the iPhone 4S, the iPhone 4S vs 6 Plus gave me the same experience today for comparing the iPhone 6 Plus vs iPhone X.
Why AppleInsider doesn't address other reasons and complaints besides the Apple official excuse of a depleting battery?
Forget GeekBench4, it doesn't show the reality. Is there any other apps showing you the original time and latest time required to do the following actions:
1. to do a screenshot
2. to delete an app
3. to successfully perform a gesture on the touchscreen
4. to open the camera and be able to take a picture
5. to take a picture after the shutter button is pressed
When I bought a new iPhone 6 Plus, all 1 to 5 actions mentioned about took only a fraction of a second.
Now, the iPhone 6 Plus takes:
- 6 to 10 seconds to do a screenshot
- 20 to 40 seconds to delete an app
- twice or multiple times to perform a gesture
- about 10 seconds to take a picture
- 2-3 seconds to take a picture after the shutter button is pressed
Today, my iPhone 3GS performs the above functions similar to iPhone 4S and much faster than the iPhone 6 Plus. And the iPhone 4S is taking a picture as fast as an iPhone X! Why?
In just 2 years time, I am expecting the iPhone X will be slowed down along the same way as my iPhone 6 Plus.

Apple hit with lawsuit after admitting to slowing down iPhones with depleted batteries
My iPhone 6 Plus was throttled, definitely, during 10-15 December 2017. The screenshots took 6-10 seconds to make. Now, it returns to normal, i.e. 1-3 seconds.
I use coconutBattery (on Mac, free to download) to test the battery condition of my iPhone 6 Plus and it is 92%. Definitely it's not a worn battery. Also, this iPhone 6 Plus was replaced by Apple in April, just 8 months ago, because the original iPhone 6 Plus was 50% slower than my wife's. Both iPhone 6 Plus were purchased on the same day.
So, editors, please do not divert our attention. It's not battery problem. You're just helping Apple to sell their huge inventory of stocked batteries for older iPhones!
